i would guess an an accumulation of dust in the sat nav units (DVD drive in the boot) cooling fan, or the fan has packed up.

you can get special superglue for plastics. It normally has a marker pen with an activator in it as well as the normal glue. That's pretty strong.

There's not electrical contact in the swan neck fitting.

The fog lamp cut out just works by detecting there is a trailer connected to the lighting socket. I would guess the socket got water in it, ...
