Mine was making the same noise and I replaced the throttle body,it has been spot on for nearly 2000 miles since.

What problems were you trying to fix when you had the remap/EGR removal?
Many will disagree but I would always undo any improvements/mods before trying to find a fault, you could be chasing your tail ... |
