Dan uk. It is the massive one lol, and mean massive that comes in it's own case I guess is best way to describe. It wasn't like a filter you just swap out on a normal car and put the lid back on, it IS the lid as well. I can't see how you could possibly get a "full" service for the money you are talking, I can barely get my civic done for that Shocked Range Rover 4.4 V8 Autobiography

There is an oil filter. An air filter and a pollen filter.

If you know what parts go where its a lot easier to check prices...

The only way I can think it was that expensive is if you had the gearbox oil changed too?

Are you talking about the transmission oil filter - looks like a big cooking pan with a drain on the bottom? Made of metal?

(on TD6)
Oil filter looks like an oil filter (no metal case, and quite small @ 4" high by 2" diameter)
Air filter is a big white cylindrical filter with a cap on one end (@ 2ft long by 6" diameter)
Pollen filter looks like an old washboard (@2ft x 1ft and about 1" thick) .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

I've just spoken to the garage owner and he is gonna print me a full break down of parts so I can put them up. I did just assume it was an air filter but I will be better informed hopefully by weekend. But again to the original point, LR did his original services, at prices of about £600, then nearer £1000 with non of the original equipment replaced. They basically took it round to the wash bay and did a visual inspection. When sidmini asked about the "full" service on a 4.4 petrol this was just my experience. A very large bill that basically cost me nothing in labour. Just replacing the plugs, the industry standard is n hour and a half, and the plugs being platinum must be £70 ish? So that's £70 plus say £30 labour? So that's £100 right there. I can't see how you can change 9 litres of expensive oil, top or replace other fluids, change 3 or 4 filters (I believe it has 2 air filters but again could be wrong) all for a "maximum" of £300. I have a TD6 2005 which i had from new and it has 56k on the clock, i decided that now it is out of all warranty i would do a service myself as i am fed up taking back the tools they leave in the engine!!

i got all the parts from Brit parts and the oil fromm halfords as they had 20% off. I decided that i would also replace the crakcase valve whilst i had it apart rather than just the filter. Started at 2pm on Saturady and finshed at 7pm and that is the first time i had done one, learnt a few lessons on the way and i rekon i could do in half the time next time. I used the post on Wiki as a guide and was indeed very helpful. The most exspensive part was the oil plus i did a engine flush.



Air Filter K & N Cotton £32
Oil Filter £8.40
Fuel Filter £9.41
New oil drain plug and washer £3.71
Pollen filter £15
Crankcase filter and valve £39
Small air filter near fuel filter £1.68
9L Castrol Edge 5/40 synthetic £82
2 cans Wynns engine flsuh £9.98

Everything was done meticously and everything was also cleaned whilst the covers where off. The parts and oil came to about £200 albeit i replace the crankcase valve and upgarded the filter. The dealer one just lloks like a oice of cardboard with cotton wool wrapped around it. I would say that the dealer would not have done such a good job but charged me a lot more in Cardiff, plus i have issues with them.

If any one wants to do a service and not sure pm me and i am happy to point out the bits that i went wrong on and soon worked out what to do............more importantly than all the above I really enjoyed doing it and felt good afterwards.........oh apart from the oil spill on the block driveway which the Mrs went nuts about!!!!!!!!!

Do the transfer box and diffs next
