..... Be a stupid choice of car to buy?

They're down to around £15k-£16k for an early 1999 model either the 4.4 green label or the 6.75 rd label, insurance is the same as what I'm paying for the Merc.

Are they ridiculous to run? Mpg isn't a concern as I don't do very many miles. Are their any common problems that people know about? 2006 Mercedes CLS

The 6.75 is the old 400bhp 16v V8, classic engine, but 4 speed auto, whereas the 4.4 is the Cosworth fettled twin turbo BMW V8, down by 50bhp over the 6.75 but supposed to be a lot more responsive and a better drive with it having the newer ZF 5 speed auto. Still no slouch though with 0-60 in 6 seconds and 150mph tops, not what the car is about I know.

Reading some reviews, the main thing is fuel costs, like I say, pretty irrelevant when I only do about 5k a year, other than that, servicing, but, my local place I use that did all the work on my Maserati deals with a lot of top end motors like Ferrari, Merc, BMW, FFRR, Porsche etc, so I see no reason why they couldn't work on a Bentley.

Damn, this is tempting.

I have a short list for my next motor, there's a S/C FFRR, Cayenne turbo and the Bentley as an odd-ball. I would have another FFRR tomorrow, but don't know if I'd always regret not buying an Arnage before I should put the sensible head on and buy a house.  2006 Mercedes CLS

Ah, well if it's between the FFRR S/C and the Bentley it'd have to be the S/C! Clear winner over the Cayenne Turbo as well in my book.

I guess it depends on what you'd use it for, but in my humble opinion the S/C will be a 'car for all seasons' fantastic all rounder, whereas the Bentley would be a fantastic bit of auto exotica to have a play with occasionally!  2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

The Cayenne would be a laugh though, they're a bit bland and ugly, but de-chromed in black, they look ok, probably end up with a FFRR again  2006 Mercedes CLS

Go for it its no more of a gamble than any other car maybe go for the early one i.e not the bmw one as if you have a problem the early version will most likely be easier to fix onto no6 Range Rover

On the contrary, I love it, it's one hell of a car, it drives really nice, handles really tight, just a really nice place to be. As I found out tonight, pretty damn quick when you want it to be given it's size and diesel lump, showed some kid in a fettled 106 GTI a clean pair of heels up to naughty speeds, (i.e., 71 mph ) Don't laugh either, those 106's are a genuinely quick little motor with the right mods and that's speaking from experience from when a few mates of mine had them and Saxo VTS'!

I'd be looking to replace my car this time next year realistically, I only tend to keep cars between 12-18 months. I like a change every so often as their's quite a few different cars I'd like to own before I have to eventually buy a house and/or settle down with a woman
