Dune Bashing in Dubai

I was working in Dubai all last week and had a few hours free on Friday morning, so the guys took me out in the desert towards Oman to do some DIY dune bashing. It was just 2 cars, a Mitsubishi Pajero 3.6 V6 petrol and a Chevvy Suburban 5.8 V8.

It was good fun, would like to do it again. Land cruisers and Patrols are very popular for doing this, as is the Jeep wrangler. They don't use Land Rovers much due to the high cost of repairs and getting parts takes time out there.

PS: didn't see a single Evoque there at all.

Once into the sand you have to deflate tyres to 18PSI, this device can be pre-set at a certain PSI so you can set all 4 tyres off at the same time, great device.

Just like being at home - flat battery on the Chevvy!

Mark...excellent quote!

Actually it was much simpler and just "AhAAAAAAAAA!"

Stan, pics were taken on a Canon Ixus 70 (quite old but creates great pics), sadly now a bit old hat and isnt wide screen etc. Discovery 4 HSE

I thought you were doing the Michael Jackson routine singing the earth song and waiting for Jarvis Cocker to come running in and knock you off the sand dune …. Laughing Laughing

Stan, it's the exact size of a credit card and only 11mm wide. It's so easy to keep in the pocket.

The wife has a newer Ixus with touch screen but I can't get on with it, takes too long to change settings, I like buttons to press. Discovery 4 HSE

I have a Nikon D50 DSLR with a telephoto lense that can take stunning pictures, it's just too bulky to take abroad really. Discovery 4 HSE

Can't go wrong with an ixus, we're onto our 4th now, the last one, (Ixus 700) has just died, lens stuck out. I bought a 100IS for £120 2 years ago and it's perfect. 2006 Mercedes CLS

Good pics there Adam - had a dune bashing trip whilst in Abu Dhabi last year which was mega-fun!

Also had a go at snowboarding down a sand dune... too easy! Cool

Did some dune bashing back in 1988 in Dubai using our companies agent's own classic RR.

Would be interesting to repeat with the new terrain control.
