Personally I like the deployable side steps. They work fine for me. The post from me above shows that it's just a switch to lock the steps for jacking. My 85 year old mum uses them no problem and she's wheel chair bound. They were also no trouble and well out of the way during the Salisbury Plain off roading recently, although the mud did stick between the step and the sill. Once open they were easy to clean.
If they are on, and you can get them to work, keep them. 2012 5.0L S/C

Totally agree nomad ! They look great and will have a go when it stops raining over the weekend to get them working

You are in Manchester - don't expect it will stop raining any time soon I used to live in Bolton - the webbed feet have only just returned to normal  2012 5.0L S/C

They are deplorable because they are not working !

Tried to switch them on but can't get the switch to light up ? Any one else got any ideas before I try the main stealers ?

Maybe the fuse is blown or missing and therefore you are getting no joy from the switch? On mine the fuse is the first of the large vertical ones (30A F61) on the far right of the main fuse box behind the glove compartment. I sometimes remove this when the steps are out to absolutely make sure that they don't retract when i jack the car. MY2007 S/C - Stornoway / Jet

Sorry if forgot to add that you can download the installation manual from LR TOPIX website, although you are not fitting them it does show all the components, where they are on the vehicle, and how they are connected. I'm not registered and the link i posted works fine on my computer, but not on my Ipad.
