TDV8 Fuel Filter Change - How to Change - Anyone?.

Hi all

Does anyone have instructions, with pictures (either DIY or LR publication) for changing the fuel filter on a 3.6 TDV8 FFRR ?.

I would think it was a straight forward job, but best fill the new filter with diesel before fitting

Have read that turning the key to P2 a few times will prime the filter, not sure if that's true or not though?

Did mine last year and it was a very simple job made complex !!
In theory should take no more than 5 minutes if working on a brand new car took me about an hour.
Problem for me was the castellated locking ring which holds the filter in place was stuck and having read all the stuff in the manuals about the correct way to turn it I wasn't confident I wouldn't break it it. So in the end took the full filter assy off the car and did it on the bench. Turned out the ring was well crudded up with road grime mud, dead beetles and the like etc. etc. !
I cleaned the housing and filter assembly and lubricated the ring with silicone grease after which it was possible to simply turn the ring by light hand force and remove and reinstall the filter quite easily.

From memeory the filter cartridge has an arrow which is aligned to one on the housing

I would suggest getting a genuine part as opposed to a pattern one and if you do remove the filter housing blank off all the hoses and fittings as you MUST keep everything scrupulously clean.

Did mine yesterday and followed your brilliant instructions - simple as pie!

I didn't fill mine with diesel as I didn't want to risk spilling any. Just switch the ignition on and off a few times and then start it - it self bleeds.

A must is to line the arrow up on re-assembly.

Simple.

I changed mine today. If you look at the top bit of the filter, there is a collar which needs to be undone. It's undone clockwise looking from the top. It's usually quite tight, so I used a strap wrench to undo it. The major issue is a lack of space so it also helps to undo some of the fuel pipes around the housing too, maybe take a picture before you start so you know where everything goes.
It's not too hard. As the vehicle was designed under BMW where everything fitted, while under Ford I suppose it was a different story!

I find removing it in its entirety is easier in the long run.

It’s quite and messy and the stupid lock ring is a pain.

Easier to remove it and change the filter 2007 3.6 TDV8
