LPG or Sell?

OK im thinking about either taking the plunge and converting my 4.2 SC to LPG or selling and buying a TDV8.

If LPG'ing what kit should i be looking to buy, is there any deals on at the moment i should be made aware of as i could travel.

Is there any neg points with regards to an LPG install on a supercharged?

Or should i just sell? Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

I would try to avoid LPG - from what I know does the system not need to be serviced regularly in addition to the rest of the car. And does the cost of the conversion + maintenance not outweigh the cost of running a standard 4.2?

I personally would stick with the car you have or shop around for a TDV8 but even this may be uneconomical unless you travel large distances over the ownership period.

All IMO of course.

I have a BMW 4.4 rather than a 4.2SC but the same theory holds good.

Roughly 14k miles will pay for the conversion in terms of fuel saved. You will save around £50 per fill up and will end up with a cost equivalent of around 30mpg. An annual LPG service is about £150 on top of your normal servicing costs.

Plenty of technical info on here and Pistonheads. 2021 3.0 P400 Vogue

got a 4.4 V8 as JW and it has been faultless on the LPG - service £150

Currently getting around 31-32 MPG equivalent (£50 gets 235 miles on a 75L tank. Get as big a tank as poss if you can - 90L?)

Jeepers!

If you love the SC and who wouldnt being made in such limited numbers, i would get a work hack for the price of the LPG conversion.

An old diesel for say £500 thats got MOT on it, run it for a year or two or until a repair costs more than £150 and then flog it on.

A xantid HDi is good, or the 1.9td better as you can chuck all sorts of fuels in it and it will carry on going, 45+mpg isn't hard to get, for a 67 litre tank i got over 700miles from one on Veg Oil with a load in the car mainly on a roads Smile
I wouldn't personally put that kind of milage on a FFRR as the fuel bill will soon scare you and the amount of time spent waiting for the tank to fill up every other day at the station(which is realy even what a TDV8 would be like as well) is just going to eat into your time even more.

Another option if your commuting that far is to stay overnight at the other end, often cheap places if you book in advance and saves more time as well!

a bit of quick maths shows if you did that 5 days a week for say 40 weeks you'd be doing 36k PA!!

Definately get a work hack as it will work out cheaper with insurance and so on than an LPG conversion of swapping to a TDV8 which won't get more than 31mpg on a run IMO.
