There are many chips & retunes available for the TD6. Stick to one of the more popular brands. Such as J.E. Engineering, Jeremy Fearn, DPchip, Chipit, Or this one

no, but you will find that the Sports becomes superfluous due to the extra power - i.e. makes no difference |

But do any of these put undue strain on the engine/gearbox...?

TD6 is a BMW engine and BMW did a power upgrade for it as std in the X5, its an understressed engine. The gearbox might be a different matter though! A lot depends how you drive it, if its balls out everywhere, and or a lot of towing then its life will be shortened!

Mine
Mine was done mobile by http://www.jfautomotive.co.uk/ The remaps are bespoke per vehicle. He downloads the original map and sends it to head office. They then enhance the map using your cars parameters instead of a generalised one for the car. I'm well impressed. Next one will be the TDV8. 08 model TDV8 Vogue SE Rimini Red/ parchment. 04 TD6 Vogue Oslo Blue / parchment 99 Model 2.5 DSE Rioja Red / lightstone 97 BMW M3 Evo Convertible plus a few more! |

how much do these things cost to do? and as well as increasing mpg does it mean that when cruising on the motorway do the revs / noise drop? ie i think at 90 the rev counter is about 4000? does it come down at all? as if it did then it would be quieter? that i think would be a real bonus? andy |

Andy, it's not possible to get the revs to drop like that. The revs it pulls is determined by the gear ratios which is a mechanical element, not an electronic element. The only way you can get the revs to drop at a given speed (assuming you are already in the highest available gear) is to add a new gear. This also assumes the torque converter isn't allowing some slip at the time of course. |
