have you tried the ciggy socket on the back of the center console, not sure if its ignition or permanent live and routeing the power cable will be very easy along the console.. ... - .- -.

Do you have the power socket inside the centre cubby? I use that for my phone, iPad, tomtom etc. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Won't it just be easier to unplug the tomtom when you park up? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Have you adjusted all the route settings on the mk4 Nav? Seems to me like its all set up wrong! I had mk4 Nav in my last TD6 and a Tom Tom in my other car and they were as good as each other IMO... Try changing some settings on it before you look to rewire your car to run the Tom Tom...

Having looked at the wiring diagram for the car since my last post I find that there are actually two wiring options for the cigarette lighters.

Exactly - but it's more than that - I hate fly-leads and wires running across the dashboard etc. So I'd like to find and ignition live and then hide all the wires so they pop-out of the dash top just behind where the tomtom sits. Someone else mentioned that the routing can be improved by messing with the settings of the DVD satnav - mine seems to have two options only - fastest (where it picks fast roads like motorways) or Shortest - where it will wander down country lanes for miles to save 4 inches on the journey. What I want is 'Quickest' where it balances distance against speed - like the tomtom. My route to work is the quickest and is 59 miles - Mk4 for fastest wants me to do 72 miles and starts off going a long way the wrong way to join the M6 - Shortest is better but takes forever. Tomtom takes me in a straight line nearly along the A5/A14 cutting through one little village to join A14 - perfect and by far the quickest route. If anyone knows how to make the MK4 that intelligent I'd be all ears! I've got the latest firmware on it - from some site - it's the V32 version I think with a Range Rover splash screen added. |
