Australia 2008 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Rimini Red

My Dad has deployable side steps on his VSE and whilst they work well enough but if you get a puncture you must call out Land Rover assist as the side step must come off to change a wheel . It happened to him the other week when he drove over a nail in the boat yard . 2008 MY Supercharged

As I mentioned before I found the deployable steps to be at a stupid height when down. For little legs the step up in is still not right because they fold down too low.

The fixed steps give an even 1/2 way or thereabouts step and just works better.

There was also the concern that you can't even change a wheel without removing the deployables otherwise your warranty will be void ! Apparantly they have to be removed before jacking the vehicle.

If you like gadgets then yes get them, if you want something that looks OK & practical, then go fixed Thumbs Up

I know i am a bit late on this topic as you have already booked your RR in but incase anybody else is reading this in the future i have deployable steps on mine which so far have performed without fault and according to the previous owner did so for him also from when the vehicle was new.

The kit comes with a switch which is fitted to the front overhead console opposite to the sunroof switch, although on my search for a RR it appears that sometimes this is omitted when fitting takes place. This switch is the key to forcing the steps to stay out when the doors are closed (as long as you don't drive off) it also turns the system on or off if you want it to. I use this so i can stand on the steps to clean the roof and to give access to the jacking points to raise the vehicle if neccessary. As an extra precaution when i jack up i remove the fuse for the steps when they are out to absolutely make sure they dont retract and hit the jack which could cause a bit of a problem! It took me a long time to work out how this switch worked as there was no instructions with the car but i found they can be downloaded free from LR TOPIX site.

Good tips about the sidesteps. Also very happy with mine and no issues whatsoever.

I looked on Topix but could only find fitting instructions. Can you point me in the right direction for the instructions on how to use the switch?

Thanks! Thumbs Up 2012 5.0L S/C

Sorry i should have said fitting instructions as that was what i was referring to. It does show a thumb pressing the switch for 5 seconds which is what started off my searching, however this is my knowledge of how the switch works.

If the steps are working and you want to disable them: insert the key in the dash in position 1 and hold the switch whilst turning the key to position 2, the light in the switch will flash twice to confirm the system is now off. To turn the system on repeat the procedure but the light will now flash three times to confirm the system is now on.

To force the steps to stay out regardless of the position of the doors, what LR call 'roof access and jacking mode' get in the vehicle and close the doors, insert the key in the dash and turn to position two, then hold the switch for about five seconds until the light in the switch illuminates continuously then remove the key. The steps will now stay out regardless of the position of the doors unless you drive away or lock the vehicle at which point they will return to their normal function.

This works fine with mine and i hope it does for you also. Very Happy
