Budget is a little on the tight side if im honest so looking for best bang for my buck....please help all suggestiosn gratefully received....

It might help if you can specify which 20" alloys you have, as ones that are designed the RR Sport are different to ones for the FFRR, thereby tyre size choice comes into play.

The standard 20" alloys for the FFRR are 8.5J and the tyre should be 255-50-20-109V

Examples of these are Continental Cross Contact UHP, Michelin Diamaris, Pirelli Scorpion Zero M+S and Goodyear Wrangler M+S.

None of these are cheap, and I would question the logic of putting cheap tyres on such as heavy car, even if you only plan to do road work.

Think about this:

The tyres are the only reason you stick to the road
Cheap tyres can affect ride, handling and braking and therefore safety for you, your passengers and other road users.

If you can't stretch to brand new 20" tyres of a decent make, try to get partly worn ones from somewhere like eBay.

Hope this helps but any 20" tyre is not going to be cheap on the whole. Discovery 4 HSE

thanks for the reply - Im getting more and more concerned that i am biting off more than I can chew with this plan. The guy selling the RRS 20" wheels (Stormer Alloys) doesn't know what size they are (besides being 20" and currently on his RRS supercharged) but assured me they were going to be the same for FFRR and RRS.....now I just dont know - I have a budget of £750 ish for four tyres......but the 8.5J measurement is yet another one I simply dont understand - am I crazy.....

unless there is a forum member here interested in a straight swap for some 22" Overfinch Tiger alloys (PM me if you are) I may just leave as is.....
Anyone up for a swap - I;m told they;re the DB's - but they;re just not doing it for me......

Right....

I think I can offer a suitable opinion here.

When I bought my FFRR it came with 20" Stormer Alloys and 295/40/20 tyres.

I didn't want the stormers on my car so I bought a set of 20" 7 Spoke LR wheels and tyres which have 255/50/20 tyres. Car feels exactly the same to drive in every way - I feel no difference what so ever due to the tyre size change.

You also need to be aware that the model year of alloy needs specific bolts too - if you buy >06MY alloys then you need the appropriate bolt+locking wheel nuts to go with them - much like if you buy <06MY wheels you need the right bolts/nuts too - this can add up to £75 - £100 extra on top of the wheels!

I'm sending you a PM now about my stormers, just so you have it as a ball-park

Note that RRS wheels have a lower load rating (900kg) as opposed to FFRR wheels (925kg), D3 wheels have the highest at 940kg.

AJS 4x4 are site sponsors on disco3.co.uk and rrsport (I think), and should be able to set you right - ajstyres.co.uk Thumbs Up

For me, I just think that alloys from the Sport don't look right on the FFRR. Stormers are very common these days on the Sport and look odd on the FFRR.

I'm pleased that my new car coming this week has the stock LR 7 spoke 20" alloys and looks nice and original.

I would also want to get rid of the Overfinch wheels. Sell them on eBay to fund the purchase of better alloys. Discovery 4 HSE

In the TDV8 the tyres are not 109V, but 109Y.
That specific point leaves the michelin and goodyear out, as they are V tyres.

Now that you're about to receive a TDV8, prepare to pay that price. Having just two brands available means killer prices.
