Side steps - insurance premium

Does anyone know if Land Rover side steps would affect e.g. increase my premium?

I'm too unlucky to get away with that! I'd not tell them and knowing my luck they'd invalidate any claim!!! Big Cry

Absolutely!

Now I just need to decide if I want them! My car looks great without them but might look even better with them! Only problem being is once they're fitted I understand there are holes left all over the place if I take them back off! Oh, the decisions!

Tell them they were on it when you bought it & if they are factory ones, all should be fine.

Generally geniune factory fit stuff doesn't cause problems, its the non genuine stuff or wrong size wheels / knude bars etc they like to bump the premiums up on.

If they do try to put the price up tell 'em to sod off & go elsewhere.
Thumbs Up

Be wary, some insurers do not do what you might expect.

I used to have a Disco 3 on an Admiral multi-car policy. They would not cover factory fitted extras on my Mercedes CLK at the time that totaled about £5k. They only covered the vehicle without options. I then enquired about side steps and Leather I added to my Disco 3. Admiral advised me that they would add £50 to the base premium but not cover the items. When I asked for en explanation they advised the car was more attractive to a potential thief!

I conclude Admiral and Elephant their internet arm lure clients with low premiums and then deny them full cover on there car unless it is a basic spec factory model with no options. On reading the policy wording they only cover options with prior permission which is never provided.

Needless to say I have taken my business elsewhere. I returned to Churchill and have been content with cover for the FFRR and Freeloader at a reasonable price, including all options whoever fitted them. I understand NFU offers the best service of all, but they always have been pricey for my vehicles in my location. 2018 Range Rover Autobiography

Green, I don't think anybody would fit side steps for aesthetic reasons, for me it's pretty clear that they compromise the beautiful lines of the FFRR, however they can be very useful for practical reasons, which is I guess why most people fit them.

If you don't need them, I'd say forget it! I have two kids of 6 and 9 and we don't need them! Only downside is probably more susceptibility to car park dings. Big Cry Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

I'm with Direct Line - plenty of extra's (including fixed side steps) & no problems there. I haven't had a full renewal quote just yet as I changed vehicles during the policy, but it's set to be around £900 fully comp & that's for new value around 85K
I didn't think that was too bad.......

To be honest, car park dings are one of the reasons I was thinking of getting them. My last car was damaged on 2 separate occasions in Tesco car park! Big Cry

Also, whilst my Mum doesn't get in the car everyday, when I went to visit her the other day she couldn't get in, even on access height!

I'm not going to pay full whack though just for this, if I can find them cheap enough then I'll get them!
