United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Epsom Green
2010 MY Range Rover EGR causing Limp Home mode

Hi,

I have a 2010 MY RR Autobiography which last month started flashing all sorts of messages on the screen where the instruments generally are, i.e. the tv screen with the speedometer and revometer etc, Brake Assist Off, Stability Control Off plus various others and it went into Limp Home mode, except it's not really powerful enough to limp anywhere. The AA came (via Land Rover Assist) and checked the battery saying that when it was under load (seat heaters, lights etc) the battery wasn't charging. It also had an EGR fault logged when he connected his computer to the car. The AA recovered it to my dealer who diagnosed an EGR Valve fault.

Now here's the problem, there are no EGR valves available anywhere for my car. Not this country, not abroad (so Land Rover tell me and the dealer). They are now quoting an "Expected" delivery date for the valve at the end of November. So my car is off the road until then, (is this what they mean by "off roader")? TBF they've lent me a Disco, but it is frustrating to have paid for a RR and be driving a Disco (I had two before and they were great don't get me wrong but not as nice as my RR).

Is anyone else struggling to get parts for the RR from Land Rover?
Is this a common problem?
Is there anyone I can ring to get this sorted?
Can i get EGR valves from anywhere else?
Is the specific EGR valve fitted to my RR 3.6TDV8 fitted to any other makes of vehicles?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Will.

They say that the new engines (4.4L Diesels) don't use the same EGR valve!

Not sure about this but you could try BBA Reman they might be able to refurb your existing valve.

Curse you Andy!!! I had never noticed mine doing that before seeing your comments in various threads, but mine does it too!

Notice it every time I turn the engine off now...

Andy, never noticed the EGRs making this sound on my old RRS but the TDV8 definitely makes this sound.

I believe that it is either impossible or prohibitively expensive to blank the EGR valaves on a TDV8 as there are lots of systems that link to this. TDV6's post 2007 can't be blanked IIRC without the engine management (emissions) light coming on permanently and I was told that the TDV8 is the same.

Should also be 2 EGR's - 1 for each bank of cylinders if they have the same configuration as on the 2.7 TDV6.

I had a EGR fail on my RRS which was covered by warranty thankfully, had to blank it for a few days so that the engine would run properly. Used a 2 pence piece. My sport was a 2005 so could be blanked without the emissions system getting itself into a strop!

Your dealer should be able to raise the part request to "VOR" level (Vehicle Off Road), and possibly even further to "VOR Escalated".

See http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post511976.html#511976

Drop Nick Lee at Yeovil LR a call or email, he'll tell you the true current situation on the part.

Stan, this thread may be slightly more informative than the RRS one;
