the standard wheels are 8.5j and you will have problems with wider profile tyres...RRS wheels fit ok and are 9.5j which will take wider tyres....

I am no expert but I thought the 275 would fit an 8.5j Standard Wheel..... |

OK it must be the 20" bit that makes the difference. |

think i may order some tyres up anyway. Dont particularly like the wheels i have and would prefer the sport type y spoke if they fit ok but i can swap the tyres later |

Saw those, trouble is they are listed as 275 55 20 profile which will mean they are quite a bit bigger radius. My old D3 had 275 45 20s??? |

It's not the 20", Gary, it's the aspect ratio. The taller the tire, the more you can 'bend' the sidewalls in and the narrower a rim can be. If you take Stan's 275/40 20 and change the aspect ratio to a 275/65 20 you can use a 7.5"x20" wheel. I have the same sized tires as you on my ff. And I'm running the OEM 18" wheels which are only 7.5" wide. Great for off road as the wheel is buried in rubber and relatively well protected. On road the RR is a little loose on turn in as the tires have to fold under the wheel and settle before the car can settle into the corner.
Sorry for the thread hijack but I also thought I'd take the opportunity to show all looking at low profile tires what a proper ff looks like. :P Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() ![]() RRC 2Dr, RRC 4Dr, P38, and 2 L322s (wife thinks I'm nuts - prob right, too) |
