By the way, nice hotels, not some horrible little box where I come out looking like this guy did when he was in Sri Lanka: -

*I know the bridge over the river kwai was set in Thailand, but it was filmed in Ceylon, as Sri Lanka was then.

If you like wildlife then a vist to Yala National park a must, and also there's Udawalawa national park, where Landrover is a major sposor for a activity which looks after orpanated baby elephants. If you visit this park you can go and see them from a distance (they are kept away from humans, so they dont get used as they are released in to wild when they grow up). LR have donated few Defenders for this operation.
In the centre of the country there's city of Kandy where famous tooth relic of the Buddha is and also a city called NuwaraEliya also called 'little England' because there are lot of colonial buildings.
towards north There's Anuradapura and Polonnaruwa where there's lot of historical ruined buildings are and all these places have very good hotels and so are the beach hotels almost all around the island.
Travelling, you can get car with a driver for a good price, self drive possible, its not dangerious as India but dont try it as son as you are out of the airport. Smile .
In Colombo there's very good shopping, very cheap clothing, same stuff that comes to Europe but lot cheaper.
