Why do Traders say they have a physical car

Then when you phone them up after seeing it on AT they tell you that it won't be due in from the factory for another 6 / 8 weeks

Just having a rant ………….. FANNIES Laughing

Even in the used car market, adverts are not what they seem. It's shocking the number of cars advertised that don't actually exist. They sell them and leave the advert on AutoTrader to get people to call about them, then they tell you "we have another one due in next week" - I can't be arsed with that sort of behaviour.

When I was looking to buy my FF, I had a weekend when I planned to drive around and look at several. I made a note of several advertised on internet. One dealer I phoned told me one of the salesmen had borrowed it for the weekend did I want to try Monday! Another place I tried said the car was not there that day.

I ended up buying the first one I had already seen, which was at a small dealer just 4 miles away.

It's just stupid don't they want to sell cars? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I've said it before. What you need to understand about most car dealers is that they're only barrow boys in a suit. The overwhelming majority do it only for the money and it shows. Poor product knowledge, underhand sales tactics (lies, lies and more lies) and an obvious pure self interest in any dealings. Think of them as parasites who leech off customers and give as little as they can possibly get away with in return. Avoid them like you would avoid a dose of the clap.

There are exceptions. These are generally the ones who are passionate about cars, love the job for what it is, and build a business on repeat customers. These are the ones to do business with and keep in contact with. They will serve you well and you keep them in business. More of a symbiotic relationship than a parasitic one. There is a fine example of such a trader on here Wink

I have a very good relationship with my dealer, have done for 15 years. I've followed him through a small indy, a large indy main dealer, Reg Vardy and now he's DP at a Stratstone outlet. The name over the door doesn't matter one iota. It's the person you deal with that counts. So having been with him 15 years or so, changing both cars every 2 years, what kind of customer service do you think I get?? Especially now he's DP, all his staff well know about our friendship Wink

Something else worth remembering. There is always another car. If you have a trusted dealer he will find it for you. Again, once that relationship is in place it's only a conversation to be had. "Oh, you know, I fancy a XXXX next". Within a short time he will have a few options for you. And the best bit is that you get a good deal because he's after repeat business.

Think about the maths. One dealer has 240 working days a year. That's realistically a maximum of 480 transactions assuming he has an admin person. If 50% of them become repeat customers, inside 4 years he has a business for life. Whereas the barrow boy will still be pushing carts in 10 years time.

So next time you come across a market trader in a suit, remember........you can polish a turd until you're blue in the face. It's still only a shiny turd. Just pull the flush like you would on any other turd and move on. Thumbs Up
