My dad has just re-done my folks house from vented heating to central and plumbed the whole lot in, mounted the boiler then got a plumber round to tap into the gas line(he had already laid the copper pipe to each end..) and saved a good £1k by doing this.

A decent sized older style house with 7 radiators would require a reasonable sized combi boiler. From my experience the boiler complete with flue is likely to cost in the order of £2000-2500 just to buy never mind install.

The cost can vary by huge amounts depending on what boiler is fitted.

No matter what system you use you still want to use copper for the main feeds then either split off smaller bore to the rads, or use a spplitter type device to knock it down a few sizes.

Yes I only meant for the smaller 10 / 5 mm pipe. Mines been in for 4 odd years now and is OK. |

But remember when you start dropping from 15mm down to 10mm and smaller the joints are still taking the same pressure . |

Cheers for the help guys. Already from your comments its clear there is a big difference in price. Got quoted £4.5-£5k which i thought was a bit steep. The boiler he mentioned was a valiant and think he said a 28jigawatt or whatever there rated in. There is only one bathroom. I would be happy to do the work myself and get it certified but think the other half would have other ideas. What would be the scrap value for my old system? Obviously they guys would factor this into there quote but could be a way of getting some money back.

Try and go for a Worcester Greenstar Highflow 440CDi @ 29.2kW or 550 CDi @ 30.6kW.
