A friend of mine is trying to find a similar car to mine. (I have a 05 Vogue).
Other than checking that all the electric stuff works inside, what else should he be aware of and check?
Anything in particular that normally can be a costly problem and one need to check when buying a used one like this?
(most of them he is looking at has around 100 - 160000 kilometers).

the gearbox is got to be top of the list, check it changes smoothly, no shuddering, put it in drive and just touch the throttle,keep it light and let the car pick up slowly,look around 25 to 40mph for any type shuddering. then do the same in manual mode and go up and down the changes, check the kick down. see what service history it has on the box as this can be very expensive if it goes wrong. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Even doing all those checks to the gearbox is no gaurantee it will be ok. I ran the whole list of checks, looked at the service history - the box had been replaced 22,000KM ago, and serviced 12 months after that. Everything checked out, and it worked like a charm. Second time I drove it after buying it, and the trannie blew up.

Turns out that the previous owner had only doing short runs for the last 12 months, and when I put a caravan on the back and gave it a bit, the torque conveter failed and took the pump with it. Up for around $6K in repairs.

Hope this doesn't happen to your friend.

That's the key.
The ZF box has it's probs - but that would not have happened on a box that had no probs after the rebuild.
And why no guarantee? 22k km's on a rebuild/exchange is $hit.
