I did the Lille market a couple of years back. It is ok but a lot smaller than I was expecting. The market was mostly amusement rides, a handful of stalls selling Christmas decorations and quite a few food stalls. The good thing about Lille is that, being a large city, there is plenty of accommodation. If you have been to Lille before, I would skip the Christmas market.

I haven't tried the Brugges market but Brugge is always good for food and beer Thumbs Up

The family and I like to go to Christmas markets to buy decorations (the hand crafted stuff). We did Amiens last year which we found over commercialised with lots of crap. We have also done Vienna (in front of the town hall) which is a large market with a lot of hand crafts.

The market I want to try is Strasbourg near the French/German border (about a 10 hour drive from Calais). That is meant to be really good.

Have a look on TripAdvisor. There are threads dedicated to Christmas markets. Paul

The Black Forest Germany ones are meant to be good. We went to Freiburg im Breisgau but they are everywhere!

according to my readings on the interweb, the brussells one is the biggest with 240 stalls? and the lille and bruges ones have 50/80 stalls so not very big....the strasburg one looks very inviting but its a bit of a slog to get there.. ... - .- -.

I've been to the Brugge Xmas markets a number of times and the stalls are not very good at all.

there is a good all year round shop called Kathe Wolfart? Which has decorations from 2euro up to 500 euro.

Munich market is fantastic! CURRENT : FFRR 2012 4.4 TDV8
