A Landrover Warranty is not a warranty by Landrover as far as I know.

The original three year one is, but after that it's a product of a warranty company being sold by the dealers. It is NOT the same.

For example, if anything goes wrong you have to pay the diagnostic cost before they look at it. £80 to £100 straight away. Also some things are excluded.

I still personally believe in putting money aside, rather than paying out up front and then arguing if it is (or isn't) covered later on.
The warranty on my Td6 was about £700 a year through Landrover.
In two years it had £200 spent on it other than servicing.
Most of the common problems are wear and tear related anyway, and no matter what the wording wear and tear is not 100% covered!

Australia 2008 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Rimini Red

I have extended my Land Rover warranty three times since the original three year one and in they time I have never paid for any diagnostic work , In fact once when I hade a mysterious EAS fault the car was picked up by transporter and taken three hours to Glasgow and then tested , no fault found so it was transported back to me . In the mean time my curtesy car was droped off and then later picked up . All this at no cost to me and I have done it several times , so no you don't pay for diagnostic test, maybe some dealers are more flexible with the rules . 2008 MY Supercharged

After enquiring earlier this week about Land Rover Warranties, there are two available, the first is equivalent to the original warranty and "covers everything" and the other a 3rd party policy that is resold by the dealership........I was quote £950 for the 'Land Rover' Option and £750 PA for the 3rd Party.

This is only the info from one dealership so may be 'inaccurate' though.

England 2003 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zambezi Silver

Well... I've paid £700 for a 2 year Warranty and tried to claim for ..

Pixel failure - drove me around the bend - had to go to approved garage who said they would have to send it to landrover - I'd already been to landrover who contacted Warranty company direct but they refused to pay main dealer hourly rate... never resolved!

Sat Nav computer died - not covered as it was part of in car entertainment £400 I had to shell out.

Injector failed while on Holiday in France. I got it sorted by Caravan club Red pennant but later got billed for the parts only (fair dos as its in the print). Called Warranty company to try and claim for parts only - refused to pay as the work has to be authorised first before they will pay! That came to around £270 Euros for parts only.

So over the 2 years I may as well have kept my money and just paid for the bits.. which I ended up paying for anyway.

Then when I think stuff it and not bother the gearbox decides to die slowly costing me nearly £3000 to have a full proper rebuild. However they wouldn't have paid as that wear and tear.

I never bothered trying my luck with the Turbo as again wear and tear.

Waste of money on the one I had, check the small print twice before you commit. As has been said you get what you pay for Big Cry 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

As I seemed to have the crap one, and DID have to pay for diagnostic work I'd never have one again.
And this was the one that comes with a 3 year old "approved used" vehicle sold by a main LR dealer.

Yes, that's right. Approved used... and I had to pay the diagnostic charge... Censored

If one was available that was as good as the original 3 year warranty, I may have taken it out previously when the crap one expired. But then I'd have been £800 out of pocket at the end of the year anyway.

Excuse the thread resurrection!

I just purchased a warranty from Warranty Direct, I took all of this feedback into account, however a lot of people were saying 'oh they'll never pay out, they'll claim it's wear and tear'. Well with the top level of cover Warranty Direct offer, they include wear and tear, and they include items which come up as needing replacement in a service or MOT.

So anyway, at £40 per month I thought it must be worth giving it a go!

Anybody else got any personal experience of Warranty Direct?

Cheers,

I have just taken out a warranty with warranty direct.... But.... It's a breakdown warranty.
£87 a year. It covers you for every part etc that the full warranty covers, but only if it leads to a breakdown... I.E. If a warning light comes on, tough. You must call out a breakdown service and get them to validate that the car has broken down, then they will pay. Wear and tear is covered.
For £87 it's got to be worth it just incase something goes bang! Previously..

Only on a Ford Galaxy.
Wiper mechanism failed at 26,000 miles. They claimed it wan't covered (was for wear and tear) so after 30 minutes of arguing and threating to go Auto Express magazine they paid for it.

Basically every warranty company I've ever used make life difficult.
They want you to give up and Censored off so they can earn out of you.

So take one out if you are happy to have an argument everytime you need to claim. Thumbs Up

But I'd never pay for one again.
Sure, you may lose out... but on average you won't. That's how they make money.

I must be the lucky one.

I had cover for the last three years on my X5.

First year, no claim, second £1400 injectors claim and last year £400 fuel pump.

I have just taken out cover on my newly acquired FF.

I have mentioned this elsewhere but I also have a warranty with Warranty Direct, and my experience was good. Although not cheap, it covers wear and tear and turbo cover. Diff failure on my TDV8 and they paid up no quibbles or issues. On the strength of my experience I would recommend them.
