Exhilirate Scotland driving experiences....

Has anyone been on one of www.exhiliratescotland.com Driving experiences...?

I've got an experience booked for tomorrow leaving The Lochearnhead Hotel at 1.30 and driving up to and around Oban before returning to the hotel for 5.30pm....

I know the roads up there very well as my folks stayed in Dalmally for 11 years....

I'll be driving 5 cars namely Ferrari 430, Porsche 911 Turbo, Aston Martin Volante, Caterham and Focus RS500.... Very Happy

Looking forward to it and having driven a Caterham and F430 before, I know I'll have some fun....

I'll take photo's and let you know how i get on.... Thumbs Up

Cracking roads to drive too, whatever the weather although there are a lot of tour buses up there at the moment. Not good for the fun stretch across Ranoch Moor and through Glencoe though if you stuck behind one following a caravan..........

The Lochearnhead/Oban via Crianlarrich/Tyndrum/ Ballahulish bit is one of the roads everybody in the UK should drive before they die, just beware that if there is an accident on the road from Oban to Glasgow via Inverary or via Lochgilphead the first thing that Strathclyde Police do is close the entire road............. also watch out for the regular speed trap at the Dunoon turn-off on the A82 just as you get into your pace to blast along to the back of the Rest and Be Thankful - last weekend there were two speed traps set up between Arrochar and Inverary 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Thanks all for the responses....

Tim, I'm fortunate that I know all the roads in the area well, together with various places where the Police may be lurking.... Whistle

I've had a few spirited drives on these roads in the past 20 years and as you say everyone should drive these roads at least once in their life....

I was lucky that my folks stayed in Dalmally for 11 years and I used to visit them twice a month, varying routes to enjoy the roads.... I even owned cars which you could have fun in without going OTT...!!

I remember once leaving Glasgow at 4.30am one beautiful summer morning to enjoy the drive, my folks were worried when a journey that used to take 1 hour to 1hour 15 mins, I still hadn't arrived by 8am.... I took a small detour as I was enjoying the stunning roads/scenery so much and drove for over 200 miles.... Laughing

As I said in my first post, I'll report back on the full day and experience, hopefully get a few photo's too....

One of the directors of 6th Gear has a Range Rover Supercharged, on LPG, he's been running it for 4 years and 170,000 miles!

Sorry, completely off topic! Enjoy your experience, sounds like a blast! Thumbs Up 2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

Thought I'd better update this after my afternoon out on Saturday....

The cars I drove consisted of an Aston Martin DB9 Volante, Ferrari 360 Spider, Ford Focus RS (400BHP), Porsche 997 Turbo and a RRS TDV8..... We were meant to have had a Caterham or Lotus Evora on the day but as both had been involved in accidents the previous week, the RRS was brought along.... No difference.... Laughing

The experience lasted around 4 hours in total with a drive of each car of around 25 mins, riding passenger in some cars as well as a lunch stop at Benderloch. Very lucky with the weather as after raining all morning, it was blue skies and sunshine during the whole experience allowing roof-down driving in the Aston & Ferrari.....

Well organised with three people from the experience riding as passenger, one each in Ferrari, 911 Turbo and RRS. Andy, part owner and serving policeman was a real nice guy but did give quite a severe lecture to 2 people who drove a bit too quickly..... Laughing

The Aston Martin Volante was the perfect GT car, roof down, loads of torque and great noise from the V12, but handling and feel quite soft as you would expect. Perfect car to hire to take my wife away on a long weekend.... Whistle

Ferrari 360 Spider was quite difficult to drive smoothly, pedals far too close together for my small feet and clunky gearchange through the chrome H gate. The car also was very crashy/rattly, didn't hide it's age well (10 years old) and having driven a 360 F1 with paddle gear-change for a few weeks in the past, this car was not a good example.

The Ford Focus RS (400 BHP) has had some work on the engine, new turbo, intercoolers etc. and was savage....

Torque steer a plenty especially when hitting damp patches on the road (wheel-spin in 3rd gear), fantastic acceleration and steering feel, very harsh ride as you would expect, turbo-lag a plenty and loud burble and pops from the exhaust.... Couldn't live with this as a daily driver as very noisy, but would be great for B road blasts in the dry.....

The Porsche 997 Turbo was fantastic, great steering feel, handling, power and poise. It may not look the best amongst the cars out on the day but for me it was the best for it's effortless performance, and it really is the everyday supercar.... It left the best impression on me because it excelled at everything I would look for in a performance car....

The RRS TDV8, good power and turn of pace for the size of car, let down by the handling.....

So, a very enjoyable day and good value for money, I'll be booking a longer experience and hiring one of the cars from these guys soon....

I'll also post some pictures from the day once I have a chance to upload them.....

Great deal on at Groupon.co.uk for these guys at the moment - only 5 hours left on it though!

8 laps in 3 different cars at Ingliston (2 x 3 lap in supercar as driver, 2 laps in caterham/Atom as passenger) for only£129 (normally £329) - go to Aberdeen/Dundee deals

Tours as described previoulsy are also on offer if you go to edinburgh/glasgow deals...
