Just get a conversion lead, means you can tow a trailer if you ever need to. Thumbs Up

Just get the proper LR 13pin cable, it really isnt that much and for the faffing around it saves its well worth it Smile
And you cna then sell the 12n/s back on ebay or the like to recoup your money Smile

Towequipe are westfalia dealers (westfalia make all the 322 towbars for land rover) and thats where we order all our towbars and electrics from... 13 pin electrics with ecu is £90ish so much cheaper than lro! Hope this helps...

thanks to everyone for their hints tips and advice... Thumbs Up

i have stripped the old mess of wires and electrical tape out of the boot today and plugged the genuine kit in to see that everything is as it should be. fortunately everything works 100%.. Very Happy

this is the embarrassing bit... the kit i bought came with the towing module connected to the big black plug. i can see that it slides to one side to remove it so that i can feed it through and into the boot. i don't want to brake anything, but can't seem to disconnect the plug from the module. is there a special knack to this? Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

You need to slide part of the connector to the side to leaver the ECU off the connector. Its very tight and requires considerable force to get it to move. Hopefully it will be obvious which way to slide it, if not, post a photo of your connector and ECU and I will point out what bit to push.

thanks for that justin, as i said before, i can see which way it goes, but it seems like there is a possitive stop as if something needs to be pressed maybe to help it on its way. i don't like forcing things!!

i will give it a good old pull now and see how it goes... Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

well just an update so this thread can be put to bed.

firstly a big thanks to everyone who helped me along the way with information.

i eventually got round to sorting things out today once and for all.

i used my multi meter to figure out which wire did what on the 12S & N sockets. for some reason L/R don't use the same colour wires as everyone else, propbably to stop you fidling.

anyway, the sockets were cut off the loom and the insulation cut open, revealing all 12 wires. i then soldered the exsisting genuine wires to new wires from a length of 13 core cable and put heat shrink over each join to protect and isolate them.

next i used heat shrink to cover all the wires and seal them all in just like the original cable. after fitting and running the loom through the boot floor i connected a 13 pin socket and tested again with my multi meter.

job done everything working 100%. in effect i have made a genuine plug and play 13 pin euro loom.

not bad for £60 all in, L/R wanted nearly £200 including the towing module.

if anyone else ever wants to change to 13 pin electrics from 12 S&N i can let you know what colour wires do what to save you time. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

hi all, i thought this was as good a place as any to post this.

i towed my caravan home today, the electrics work perfectly so well happy, but i have one question.

my trailer light on the dash is on permanently!! has anyone any reason for this? i have pressed the message button and all is ok and everything else seems to be fine as i said.

i was under the impression that the light only came on when the indicators were used.

as usual any help appreciated. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

I can confirm it should go off when there is nothing behind you Smile

It must be something in the rear fusebox that senses it when there is a load on the circuit but i wouldnt know what im afraid Sad

Same as you Stu, I was a little bemused by the trailer light being on all the time, on my old RRS it only came one with the indicators, but on the FFRR it is on as soon as something is plugged into the trailer sockets. Everything works it seems so I have not been worrying about it Thumbs Up

thanks for the replys chaps

yes it is a bit funny why it comes on and stays on as soon as you plug something in, i think you have misunderstood me Kingpleb, it goes out when you unplug, it's only when you are connected it lights up and stays on.

Simon, like you the light only used to come on with the indicators on both my Discos.

i think i might call the dealer and see what they say. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

called my local dealer today and asked about the trailer light.

i spoke with the workshop manager and he said that unlike the other vehicles the light stays on in the FFRR just to remind you that you have a trailer connected (as if you would forget. Rolling Eyes )

and any bulb issues will be displayed in the information panel on the dash.

that's me happy once again. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE
