Along with all the other parts I'm changing on the FFRR it looks like I need a rear height sensor.

Does anyone know if they are plug and play or do they need to be set up on Testbook?

New sensor will need calibrating, it will put the susp inactive fault on if you have not got it already if you change it.
Autologic will also recalibrate new sensors.
I have'nt tried RAC yet but it may be possible with that also.

Thanks, I spoke to LR yesterday and they confirmed this so I'm not going to change them just now

Took the FFRR out yesterday and was getting HDC Inactive, Air Suspension Inactive, ABS light and orange (!) light. This was the first time this had happened and when I had been working on the rear suspension I found one of the sensors was a bit suspect.

I switched off the engine a few times during my journey and everything reset, but once I reached 40mph the warnings appeared again. Another few stops en-route proved fruitless and the sign kept coming up on the dash. Once reset the suspension would manually move when the dash switch was selected so I knew at least it was working, but something was causing it to go into safe mode. I visited an indy and he told me a few things it could be ranging from a broken wire to a dud compressor, but I wasn't convinced so I have now ordered new height sensors. On the way home after the indy reset the fault it popped up yet again, this time at 45mph, so before joining the motorway I switched everything off once again then moved the suspension down and back to normal as I had done on previous occasions. Once on the motorway the speed was 55mph before the warnings came on, so I stopped a few miles from home and switched everything off, did another manual down and back to normal and this time there were no warnings so I decided to stay on the motorway and go for a run, suspension dropped as it should at 70mph and returned to normal once off the motorway, so whatever the problem was had cleared.

I returned home and soaked the sensor bolts with some penetrating fluid for a couple of hours and then started about removing them. I was unsure if they were hex or torx fittings as they were covered in rust and crud, best play safe and chap a T25 torx onto it and the bolts came out without too much of a problem, once out I was able to clean the bolt head to reveal it is actually a 4mm hex, but the T25 gives a better grip for removal and does no harm to the head.

The plastic housing that the bolts screw into is well and truly fu-barred and another winter's salt on the road would have burst the sensor off its bracket so it looks like I have changed these in time to prevent a breakdown. Once I fit the new sensors I will have the height calibrated before having my steering geometry done.

New rear sensors now in my possession and I'm just about to fit them.
One thing that did puzzle me was what should the end look like? On one side the rubber broke when I tried to remove it a couple of weeks ago and I did a temporary repair with cable ties and a metal sleeve, the other side however was a completely different shape which by looking at it fits neatly onto the suspension arm, although it turns out that it has corroded almost to the point of turning to powder. The ends should be round and have a metal insert as can be seen in the picture below
