I'm currently struggling with an intermittent speed restriction problem, I've had a search around but couldn't find any posts with the same issue.

When driving and accelerating the speed just stops increasing. Pressing harder on the peddle causes the gearbox to change down and rev higher but the speed refuses to increase.

It happens at various speeds but generally around the 60-75 mph mark. Acceleration through the gears is fine and revs are fine. There are no fault codes showing, the dealer has experienced it at 50mph when testing it after replacing a selection of filters including the fuel filter.

The best way to describe it would be as if a speed restrictor was applied although sometimes if you back off it will let you proceed beyond that speed and continue normally.

Without any codes showing I thought someone on here may have experienced this before, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. The bit about lifting off and then being able to drive through it suggests the brief lift allows fuel pressure to build back up. Might be worth getting the high pressure pump tested, also the lift pump.

you have a secondary fuel pump on the td6, these seem to go first. 2004 black Vogue TD6

Replacement pump ordered, hopefully going to be sorted next week. Th warranty is picking up the bill, phew!!

Got it back, all sorted but it had started bloody working again before it went in.

Now I can still hear an intermittent noise sounds like a compressor or pump making short intermittent noises, I thought it was the old pump but since it's still there I'm worried it might be another element of the fuelling system - what else is on the front off-side of the car? the HP pump?

On a positive note the FBH is fully operational now that the software has been downloaded.

Just the sticky clutch on the cooling on fan and the newly discovered drivers wing mirror is only adjusting on one axis.

Loved my p38 but I wish I'd chopped it in earlier in favour of an L322. Stick with it. Definitely worth the hassle even with the teething probs!

i agree with brumster, why have a boring car that works first time and nothing goes wrong with it, better to have a fullfat and battle your wits against it...

It it's anything like the 530d (same engine), then after one pump goes, the other one will too, since it's been overworked to compensate for the failing pump.

I had a 530d, and after replacing both of the pumps it was like a new car! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Now for some searching to sort the other niggles unless any of you kind chaps can point to in the right direction:

1. Wing mirror off side won't go up and down

2. fan kicks in when engines getting hot but doesn't disengage for ages even when back on to open roads

If I get these sorted before xmas it's drinks on me*
