Picked the kids up from school. Got in, switched engine on and the hazzards were flashing. Blamed my daughter for pressing the button, so switched them off and pulled away. Noticed that both courtesey lights were on too. Got about 10 yards, and a loss of drive - engine revved, but no forward motion.

Stopped car, switched off. Locked the car, unlocked, started up and everything was fine!

There were no warnings on the displays.

The car is due to go in to the garage tomorrow to have the front lambdas changed. Is it the car's way of telling me it doesn't like to be driven open loop, or is it more likely to be a battery issue?

The car has only done short journeys this last few days, with all the electrics going full chat.

Me thinks it might be the latter.

Sounds like it could well be the battery not holding its charge and causing this.

Got a flat Battery from cleaning it, the car that is, inside 1 Sunday.

Got Landrover assistance out and the guy said that that the battery is the worst thing on them, should have 2 like my old Amazon, he also said they need at least 1 good run, 3 miles at least, a week.

That's probably the factor too, however I'd left the boot open

I remember walking to the car with masses of school bags, opening the boot to pile them in, but decided to chuck them in with the kids. The tailgate was still on its first catch.

Strange, as I would have assumed the message centre would have warned me, but does explain the courtesey lights.

I'll try the same again tomorrow and see what happens.

I flattened the battery on mine cleaning the car and leaving the boot open over two days. Land Rover assistance confirmed you should not leave the keys in the ignition ( I had my bong removed by the dealer because it annoyed me) nor any doors open for any length of time.

I guess the electrics suck a lot of juice from the battery and do not have a fail safe voltage and shut everything down to safeguard the systems.

The temporary loss of drive worries me though!

ETA - I'll get the fault codes read when the sensors are done tomorrow. Maybe there's a clue in there somewhere?

Are you guys saying that the factory fitted battery is not up to the job or that the electronics are very taxing on any battery? May sound like a dumb question but just wanted to clarify. i know that electronics suck juice out of the battery when the car is switched off but would hate to think that half an hour in the car watching tv or listening to the radio would kill the battery?

I always start the car up now if I want to do anything like that, just to be on the safe side.

I couldn't even jump mine of my 2.5lt van. Assistance started it with a rarther large booster power pack thing tike this:

Have you seen the battery..... Looks like its two batteries stuck together so maybe they have!!!

It was the boot that caused the issue! Had the lambda done today and the codes read - nothing outstanding.

As you say, must take the car for a proper drive, or hook up the CTek.

Mine has done this sporadicaly over the last couple of years, unlock get in turn ignition on, Hazards and interior lights come on, turn them off and all is fine. No fault codes, got one of Dans OBD II reader thingies. letters not necessarily in the right order

Well, things get more sinister!

Both front lambdas done - car fine.

Go to get petrol, fill up and drive home 5 miles. Half way back, the engine management light comes on again accompanied by loss of drive (like I had knocked it into neutral as before). Putting car in sport mode cures it - to a point. End up driving it in manual to get home.

Any thoughts? Software, battery?

Anyone else had something like this happen?
