My third post here

Hi all, i just got my self a 05 Vogue.

We travel a lot to the northen part of Sweden for skiing and therefor need to attach a roofbox ontop of the RR.
My car doesn´t have the roofrails. What options do i have?
To be hornest, i don´t like those crossbars that you see on some cars that sort of stick out wider than the car itself.
Is it possible to attach crossbars in those three "holes" that are on each side of the roof?
Or do i need to get the roof rails first and then attach the bars on to them?

Do those ones need to have the rails permanently fitted or are they removable ?

You fit the rails to the roof and leave them on.

Then I will fit the bars when required.

I think it worth noting that the rails are quite "tall" and change the floating roof profile somewhat. I would only fit them if I was going to use the cross-bars on a regular basis.

Sounds interesting but to use the roof fitments you have to remove the flush factory rails so if crossbars where fitted you would surely have two exposed grooves where the rails should be?

I think these would locate into the existing fittings under the moving flaps on the roof (3 of on each side of the roof) and also give you the look you want.

If you search the manufacturers website they may have an importer already in Sweden

Nice looking kit that I would say this a very good option

Whats wrong with getting a trailer and pulling the kit behind you, even in bad weather it would be better traction wise than having more wieght up top making the car more unstable??

You can then put what you want on or in the trailer and not have to worry about trying to reach up top of your FFRR unless your about 6'5"> then this is something you should consider, just think how much of a PITA it is cleaning the roof properly every week and you get my drift

Ok so it looks like there are solutions for me. That there are bars that attach to the roof without needing the rails.
But on the other hand - if one should use two of the mounting places in the roof, would mean that the box will either be mounted on the bars to much to the rear or to much to the front, depending on which "holes" are beeing used.
The best is to attach a box central on to the cross bars, which wouldn´t be the case here.

Kingpleb, A trailer is not perfect for us.
You are right, to be able to reach the box one needs to be atleast 6´5.

I have the roof rails fitted so as not to scratch my roof when the garage door blows down in bad weather when im reversing my car in!!! Works a treat!

It does igore,
But this particular Vogue also includes a wife that packs loads and loads of things
So simply no space to have four pair of skis in the car.

Starman, can you get Thule roof racks over there? If so have a look at their version for the ffrr, mine was fine.
