Range Rover L322 Rear Wiper Motor

Part Number: DKD000030

What magic can you do Mick? Very Happy (the dealers all give 10% off without trying, local dealer will have one in tomorrow which I will collect Thursday if all else fails)

CWS have replied and said they do a 2nd hand one for £65 plus P&P. Not bad but who knows how long it might last? Discovery 4 HSE

Thanks anyway Mick,

I'll let you know how easy it is to do, even if you don't do it yourself you'll know how long it SHOULD take them to do it for you. I reckon it's an hour tops. Discovery 4 HSE

Here's the dismantling pictures:

The interior trim panel in the top tailgate has to come out. The Workshop manual doesn't say exactly how to do this. No special tools are required, just being brave and pulling hard. The pic below shows the clips. They are straight, so if you pull at an angle, you snap them (as I did on about 3) It really feels like it will all snap and break but have faith.

This picture shows the female part of the clip that the plastic attaches to. Not exactly rocket science stuff:

And here is the exposed wiper and washer motor itself. YOu might just be able to see the centre spindle which drives the wiper. Mine seems to leak water from this point, filling the plastic trim with dirty greasy washer fluid, then spilling it down the inside of the glass.

More pics to follow when I remove and refit. Discovery 4 HSE

OK, Done this job now, it takes an hour max if you are taking extra special care as I did.

Tools Needed:
10mm, 12mm socket
Size 30 Torx Bit
Towels

1. Remove the interior trim as above in this thread.
2. Undo the three 10mm bolts holding the plastic spoiler top to the tailgate
3. Slide the spoiler part backwards towards the rear of the car then lift away gently as there are wires connecting to it still
4. Put the spoiler on the roof at an angle so as not to stress the wires, place some towels on your roof to avoid damage
5. Open the tailgate and undo the 2 electrical connectors and the washer pipe
6. Lift up the cap on the rear wiper and undo the 12mm nut, lift the wiper off its splines
7. Undo the 3 size 30 Torx bits holding the wiper motor in place and remove (there's no rubber grommets to remove or replace, it's dead easy)
8. Fit the new motor in the opposite way to removal
9. Replace the wiper ensuring its in a parked position (9 o'clock) and 12mm nut, push cap down firmly for water tight seal
10. Switch on ignition and activate rear wiper, kill the ignition when it is at the 6 'oclock position shown in the picture - this allows replacement of the top spoiler
11. Close top tailgate and put spoiler back in place, it has 2 white slider type grommets to place it, push back into place towards the front of the car.
12. Open tailgate and replace 3x 10mm nuts
13. Carefully replace the interior trim, start at the sides as the trim fits into the side parts first

Done! Thumbs Up

Hi There

I am new to the site and found it when searching for instructions on how to remove Tailgate Trim, as I am replacing rear wiper motor.
I have looked at it and could find no advice anywhere apart from this site. I am most grateful to you as I was puzzling how to get the trim off and as you say I will have to be brave...! as I have tried to get trim off and will perhaps have to eat more Spinach as the top trim does not seem to want to come off. One question. Is it better to start at the sides or go straight for the middle where most of the locating pins are around the motor?

ANyway thanks again for your help and this site.

Cheers

Nigel

I started at the sides, just try and pull directly back in a straight line, if you pull down you may snap some of the plastic tags.

I thought it would be complex but its just brute force and bravery. Good luck! Discovery 4 HSE

Hi

Success, just finished and as you say only takes about an hour being careful. The longest part was getting hte trim off.
I huffed and I puffed and pulled and pulled, eventually it was a quick yank that did it. But I also broke tags one on either side and the other in the middle.
Hey Ho. It now all works perfectly.

Thank you once again for the advice and tips.

Cheers

Nigel
