What year is your RR? It sounds like the final stage resistor is bad. I just changed mine due to my A/c blower not wanting to blow air at different speeds. Here is a link with more information. It's not the fan thats the problem with mine, it works fine, it just that the actual air conditioning pump obviously cuts out because the air gets warm - i can still vary the speed of the fan no problem.....
