Vibration at around 40mph.......Diff problem?

Afternoon

I have only had my 05 vogue for around three weeks but have noticed a problem already.

At around 40mph once it's changed upto fourth, I get a horrible vibration through the car that lasts till around 50 or if I take my foot off the gas it disappears. This only happens after the cars warmed up, not from cold.

I have checked with the main dealer regarding the recall that was implemented on the 2003-2005 build dates.

Mine hasn't had the upgrade work done. Due to a back order on parts, it won't be done for around another 8 weeks.

My question is........do you think the vibration is down to the diff failing?

Any views welcome Smile

Thank you

If you knock it down to 3rd or up to 5th does the problem go away?

Could be wheels out of balance, they tend to be speed speciffic.

Are they Genuine LR wheels? I've never had much success getting GY Wranglers successfully balanced.

Could also be front ball joints, these gave me a slight vibration/wobble then after another 5K turned into an audiable knock until they were replaced.

Basically everything should be nice and tight under there! Laughing

Dan...... not sure regarding the gear change, will check tomorrow. Ruled out any problems with the wheels by changing from 19's to 2010 20's, same issue still there.

Daveo..... 57k

Thanks for your input Smile

my money is on your torque converter this gives you a shudder like going over a cattle grid but not as bad, do you find it if you give the car more throttle from a stand still and keep it in the higher revs it does not do it or is lighter vibration, V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Bang on Dave

No vibration at all, when using more throttle from stand still.
But i would describe the vibration more like someone changing up in a manual gearbox too early
Thats not good news, is it?

Will the convertor problem show up on diagnostics?

i dont think so as its not electrical, its the clutchs trying to lock..the main thing if it is you dont want it to start breaking up as it will kill you box as well, did you say you ave only had it 3 weeks, was it privet or trade V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Trade

I will contact hm in the morning and see what he says.

Do you think a flush and fluid change would work?

Cheers

no, Big Cry as the torque starts to break up all bits of it start to pump round your box, this is what does the damage, if you catch it early enough you can save the box as the filter does its job, it will need flushing through and the oil cooler in most cases get changed. its not a cheap repair but if it is indeed the converter get it back to your trader.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Well the dealer was very understanding!!

It's booked into a workshop for Wednesday..

The workshop say they will drop the pan, flush it through and inspect it.

Can't fault the after care so far.. Thumbs Up

I bought it from a car dealer, who doesn't have his own workshop.

He has booked it into a workshop that he uses for his work.

It's in Tooting, unless it calms down tomorrow, I won't be taking it anywhere!!!!!!!!!!
