All,

The front tyres on our fullfat are past there best- when replacing does onw need to replace all 4 as it has been suggested to me by one garage- or can i just replace the fronts and leave the rears as they have plenty of life left!

just replace the ones which are worn....dont listen to the garage ,they are only trying to make money out of you...

on all of my 4wd cars i have always changed the 4 at the same time.

On a couple of occasions I have only replaced either the two fronts or two rears as there has been no need to change all four if only two are worn down

The only time it is essential on a 4x4 to have tyres with matching tread wear front and back is if a diff lock is used between front and rear axles. Imagine if one axle had tyres half and inch smaller in diameter than the other axle. Both sets of wheels would be rotating at the same speed but the more worn tyres would be covering a shorter distance with each rotation. This would result in tyres scuffing badly or excess strain on the drivetrain etc.
