Guys

I have a few tiny superficial scratches on my car but also some paint chips i have overfilled with touch up which look naff . Also the usual swirls were the previous owner used a carwash I would like to maybe get the car machine polished to smooth these over . Would welcome any tips on I can approve the appearance to rather than bringing to the Pros .

It covers everything what you need to know about machine polishing.

For the swirls I use Swivax/Swizoil Cleaner Fluid Medium with a medium abrasive Pad. (3M Pads are great)

If you used touch up paint you may have to sand it down to the same paint level as the rest of the car.

Use some wet sand paper (3000grit and higher) and polish it after.( more infos about that are also on DW)

P.S. Polishing a Range Rover is a lot of work!!! But the result is awesome.

I had some enthusiasm until I started one hot day and realised how big they are and how much surface area there is to cover.

Right had a go at the chips using the following mehod:

Mixed Java black with clear laquer about 4 to 1 .

Applied in a blob

Then removed excess after 24 hours using a blade

Used 2000 Grit ( lowest I could get and used fairy liquid and water as a lubricant)


Worked out fairly well but I seem to have been a bit too agressive and i seem to have gone through to the undercoat


Its on the top of the boot lid were it says Range Rover I might give it another go its not a huge spot but there none the less . I have managed to put an IRL sticker to cover one spot and used some touch up on the other.

Im thinking it might be a good idea to have the top part of boot lid resprayed now as there are other minor scratches and think it could easily be blended given its only a small area

Thanks Hugi all I could get was 2000 grit it actually looks worse than it is in picture. As can be seen I have blobbed paint over spots for the time being until I can get 4000 grit or so.

Ask on DW for Help. Maybe there is a member in your region who is willing to help.

From the pictures I would say:

Tape the area where you want to correct it (use 3m Automobil tape) then sand the blobs with 4000grit WET!! (let the paper soak in the water for an hour) and dont sand too much. After that use some 3m polish compound (i think the green is the strongest) then the yellow and in the end the finishing polish (which should be blue) Then add some protection (Wax or sealant)

(this is only a proposition I would do it like that but if you are not experienced with polishing (rotary polisher) so I would advise to correct it with someone who knows how to do it)
