Can’t actually answer as never done it, but can’t you get to it by taking the wheel arch liner out?

You should just about be able to access this area from the inside, after removing all the radio / amp / DVD/ telephone etc modules, then the metal frames they mount into. from behind the trim - not too tricky if you’re relatively handy and methodical - take photos of the wiring routing as you go.

Sounds like that is worth a try thanks. Just spoke to a technician whose done a lot of these before and he reckons it'll be a case of filling and repainting. SoI've nothing to lose by trying. |

Thanks for checking, I did have a look earlier but with limited time I didn't find anything useful |

Looking at the dent, if reasonable access is achieved from the inside, a good PDR technician should be able to get that back to a decent finish ![]() 2007 Defender 90 XS Hardtop |

I'm pretty sure it is double skinned, in between is a sound deadening foam which is applied as a sticky backed pad before the outer panel is fitted. this pad then expands in the paint shop oven. So the space is pretty much completely filled in so tricky to remove. I got this from a series of programs showing how cars are made one of which was the new defender.

I’ve repaired this area previously on a few L322’s and it’s a single skin. Jonathan

Managed to get behind the dent this afternoon. Luckily it was behind the subwoofer, and I was able to get that out easily enough following this handy video from Sam's Motor & Machine

Unless it's a shadow or something if looks like you can see the dent on the inside. I very much doubt its double skinned and it's already been said it's not by someone who's done repairs in that area. I can confirm it's not double skinned at the rearmost edge / corner, by the tailight on the same panel. I pushed a nasty dent out of there with a portadown very easily ( followed by some hammer & dolly work) and guess the same could work on this one. I'm very interested in the outcome here as I have a rusty arch to repair when I can summons up the courage to pull the electronics out for access!

Looking at the photo I posted the shadow to the left of the dent is the crease, and the more I look at the photos I'm sure it's a single skin as others have said.

Any recommendations for DIY tools? All the PDR people I've contacted have either not got back or recommended someone else that didn't respond. Tried using a hairdryer and some thin glue sticks but that was pretty pathetic ![]() |
