LR070840 has an aluminium stem (type TG1C)
LR156918 has a rubber stem (type TG1D)

IIRC there was a LR bulletin stating the two were functionally the same - can't find it at the moment though.

That’s what I thought but my L405 won’t read the LR156918 which is what’s fitted to the L460 🤷‍♂️

I think they need to be activated with the correct tool first, have you tried that?

Interested in the answer to whether activation is required. I’m being quoted £750 by a specialist (not main dealer) to supply and fit 4 TPMS! Seems crazy when they can be had for about £30 a pop:

Just wondering if they will need activation or can my local tyre shop just fit them to each wheel and the car will detect them? 2018 P400e AB LWB

I swapped all 4 on my 16 when I changed the wheels, They didn’t need any programming. Have also swapped on on my D5 which was read automatically.

Both were the type with the aluminium stem, weirdly so on the D5 as it seemed to show the rubber stems as 21-> for the D5.

Fitting is easy peasy if you can get someone to take the tyres off, just thread them through and torque with a deep socket to 8NM, I got mine off EBay, gen ones for about £25 each, there are some non gen ones which look the same so double check. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The aluminium stem type should just read automatically however the rubber stem type need to be programmed if used on a L405. I think a tool that can reprogram is around £120 or a decent tyre shop should be able to do it for not much money as it is a quick job and does not need tyres remounting etc.

Full story :- I brought some 2023 L461 (style 5127) alloys and tyres for my L405. Originally my car was aluminum type 433mhz sensors and the new wheels are 433mhz rubber sensors. I have read the rubber sensor codes per wheel and programmed them into my car using an Autel tool. But i still get "TPMS system fault" after driving for 15 min.

Any ideas?
