Deployable Tow Bar

Can anyone help me with how the deployable tow bar is supposed to function, or rather if the electrics socket is supposed to deploy.

When I press the button the ball slowly motors out but there was no sign of the socket. So I got under the car and the socket is there but it seems to be swung up out of the way on a pivot. I tried gently pulling it down but it seems pretty solid up there.

I’ve given it a good spray of penetrating fluid for the time being.

Thanks In Advance

Yes it is spring loaded to the opertional position, ie down so should drop. It will be seized and with the tow bar deployed you shoud be able to free it with gradual rocking. They seize really easily.

So does the tow bar normally keep it up in place?

Yes - mine normally drops down as the tow ball does & it then gets pushed back up when it's stowed.

Had the same with mine that I picked up a few weeks ago. A liberal application of WD40 to the pivot of the socket for a few days freed it up.
