United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Silicon Silver

Alot of what was reported is from the company that repaired the car from the repairs they do.

I believe the quote from JLR was well over the top Big Cry the car was only worth £18k and a replacement battery was quoted £22k, we don't seem to repair anything any more only replace. 2017 SDV8 4.4 silicon silver AB

same with EV's where if involved in an accident the insurers write the car off..

we're getting a tesla home battery fitted and as above if it fails then the whole battery unit is replaced with a new one.. ... - .- -.

I’m now a month into a 2021 P400 (not e) petrol. It’s giving similar mpg to my previous TDV8 so maybe worth a thought. Straight six as well. Cool

are you saying that the p400 is giving you about the same mpg / economy as your old 4.4 tdv8? that sounds ver y good and arguably cheaper to run as petrol being cheaper?

That's pretty usual for any flooded car Big Cry A few years ago I wrote off a 2 week old S class Mercedes with about 400miles on the clock. Water was just above the centre of the wheels. Mercedes told me the computers are low down& were fried. No engine damage. It cut out just as I decided to reverse out. Did not try to restart. A few months later I was contacted by a garage asking if I still had the second key. They said they had bought it & were putting it back on the road

Exactly that. I don’t drive it like I stole it. It’s a nice car to waft in so that may have something to do with it but I’m getting a genuine 26mpg for local pottering which is effectively the same as my last one (27mpg but diesel). It’s not as good on a long motorway run but we have the BMW and Jag for that. 2021 3.0 P400 Vogue

I run an EV van. Hit some debris on the M1 which broke a piece of the lower valance.

A few hours later driving in a shower the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and went into limp mode followed shortly after by complete shut down.

Recovered to nearest main dealer and given 3 possible scenarios.
1, replace main plug £3.5k
2, replace main plug and wiring loom, an additional £1.5k
3, replace main plug, wiring loom and battery pack for an additional £22k Shocked

Van was less than a year old and had covered 15k miles and was now in write off territory due to a small piece of trim being broken. Bad design to say the least. I was looking forward to the conversation with my insurance company and explaining could they give me £25k for a small piece of broken trim Crying or Very sad

Van came with a 5 year warranty that wouldn’t cover it due to ‘flood damage’ which should read as driving on a slightly moist road Whistle

In the end the main plug was ‘unplugged’ and left to dry out for a few days. It was then put back together and several months and 10k miles later it runs fine Very Happy

If only Range Rovers were so easy to repair Laughing

I’ve been giving serious thought to a P400e as it would suit our needs perfectly, lots of short journeys with a few longer trips every so often.

Despite the hiccup with my van, I currently spend between £15 and £20 a week on charging it as opposed to the £90 to £100 I used to spend on diesel.

That’s quite a saving and I’ll probably renew my van once more before retirement and that will definitely be another EV.

Not wishing to be a kill-joy but..... as a long time LR owner - see profile list....
This thread may interest you if you are still considering Land Rover EV

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic72518.html

If you haven't got time the gist is... only do it if,

*You have A LOT of spare cash - being a LR owner can mean deep, deep, deep pockets! Service costs alone would buy a cheap runaround. Then there are replacement tyres @ £200, LR replacement parts seem comparable to faberge eggs in price but have to be used to keep warranty valid, insurance (if you can get it - check as my Discovery 5 insurers would not even quote for FFRR and I'm not in a big city, I'm in the far flung farming frozen north!) not to mention 'In control app' at £250 a year - it classes as a tracker so brings insurance down!
*you have a spare car while you wait for parts to arrive and experienced EV workshops to have availabiity
*you have a home charger - forecourt prices are comparable to unleaded and time consuming > Oh and you may get a cheaper EV rate from your supplier but they bump up the daily/overnight standing charge to compensate.

I'm not saying don't do it - I actually quite like mine and the average mpg (with the new EV battery= £10k+) is about 55mpg and on some runs it approaches 200mpg - according to in control anyway!!! So I fool myself I've saved money!!!!

I'm just saying make sure you can afford to get it fixed IF (and it is an IF) its battery dies. LR will not help AT ALL unless there is a full dealer based service history (even tho' its not a serviceable part) or your car is more than 6 years old or done more than 60k, which in my humble opinion is - a disgraceful way to treat customers of £100k vehicles.

My personal feeling is that whilst LR makes some desirable prestige cars, many people buy them not realising they will be paying prestige prices to keep them on the road and it comes as a shock when they are affected - its doubly so for the EV variants. NOTE: All EV batteries are £1000s not just JLR.

Anyway, my two-penneth! 2023 - July 2024 Brown Discovery 5 HSE
