MOT query - active anti roll bar pipes

I am hoping to get some definitive advice in relation to the hydraulic pipes supplying the active anti roll bar.

As detailed in a seperate post I had to have the vehicle recovered to supplying MD due to a oil leak in the pipework.

Vehicle is covered by 2 years approved warranty and I am trying to prepare my evidence in case they try and decline to pay for the work.

Vehicle first registered Jan 2018. Full service history by LR main dealer.

Bought by me Nov 2024 with 79000 miles - currently 80000 miles.
Last MOT at 77400 miles April 2024 with no advisories.

From other posts I think they will try and decline on 'fair wear and tear' or 'corrosion' not being covered.

Having looked at the MOT test manual significant corrosion in the antiroll bar/suspension is a major fault and should result in a fail.

My argument is that if there was significant corrosion it should have at least been an advisory and if there was nothing to concern the MOT inspector then I can reasonably claim this is an unexpected failure and have my claim honoured.

As this is a static part it is difficult to see where 'wear and tear' would apply.

Any observations would be gratefully received. L405 2018 5.0 S/C

Last year my 2017MY failed its MOT on corroded ARC pipes (no fluid leaks). In 2023, the previous MOT, there was no advisory or other comment. It was an expensive repair. I don't have a warranty so paid it myself. Whether you have a claim on your warranty will depend on your policy wording, but I would expect corrosion to be excluded.

If you bought the car within six months you might have a claim against the selling dealer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, but absent that I fear that fighting about this will be a fruitless source of extra stress for you. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Not that this will be much help, but one of the main reasons I chopped in my 65 plate VSE last summer was being advised - confirmed by my own inspection - of corroded ARB pipes. It’s an expensive repair; that and the year 10 service meant a huge bill within a year, so despite it being a wonderful, trouble free car, I chopped it in. Car had full MD service history and was on a LRAU warranty, which I renewed each year. The trusted MD advised that LR wouldn’t cover the corroded pipes on warranty.

Similar story for me with my otherwise faultless 2017 AB last year. In MD for 7 year service and was advised that ARC pipes were showing signs of corrosion (although not leaking) and was advised they should be replaced within the next 12 months at a cost of circa £2.5k. Also confirmed that warranty won't cover them as due to corrosion. That and soon needing new tyres all round and not being able to extend warranty as would be over 100k this year, tipped the balance for me to trade it in for another Fattie. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

Who did the replacement for you?
I'm looking for someone north of the border to do mine (more as preventative than anything else).

Cheers.

Speak to Mikey in Dundee.

He's a regular contributor to the Forum, but will be restricted in how quickly he can get the replacement pipes.

I had my fronts done a year or so ago by PV in Aberdeen and they relieved me of £2,500 for the honour.

rstoughy: mine were done at Lloyd Land Rover in Kelso, cost about £2,860, I expect more expensive now with higher labour rates and maybe part prices. It took about three weeks for the parts to be sourced from LR, so worth checking availability before booking your car in. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Cheers guys,
I suppose the 2.5 / 2,8k is about right given the amount of labour involved.

My 65 plate failed on mot as well for leaking hydraulic fluid , found on Ebay a company which makes flexible hoses for the ACE system. Is there anyone who swapped metal pipes to flexible hoses

Those hoses linked are for the older RR sport I think, and wouldn't be a straight fit on the fullfat. The ends joining the valve blocks are different.

That said, the principle of what they offer would work imho if applied to the L405. *

My caution is that their service relies on you sending the existing pipes which attach at each end to the valve block or the roll bar ... on mine, those sections were getting quite rusty ... so despite a new hose, I would expect them to continue to corrode and fail before the hose would ... greatly reducing the effectiveness / longer term value of the parts.

* There is debate about whether the hoses would flex / slap when being worked normally. The ACE system can send high pressure into the hose very quickly, which could make the hoses tense and pull against their mounts. This sudden tensing could possibly make them slap against surfaces causing sound, or rub and wear against fixed points - I've not read to date on this forum anyone who has a) fitted hoses b) experienced first hand the slap.

I was going down the route of sourcing hoses for myself before Mikey sold me a set of pipes. It still sits on my mind about creating hoses as a small project / exercise. V8 or else ...
