Like Abacus, I have a remote switch to isolate the OBD port and I leave the Vgate plugged in but switched off when not in use.
Interestingly (for some people) I have been monitoring regens for some time now using the Kot Kit and have managed to catch nearly all of them. What's interesting is that my distance between regens figure has been gradually creeping up, from about 150 when I first started to 250 to 300 miles now. This is with most journeys over about 8 to I5 miles and an occasional longish journey.
I wonder if a string of good regens has gradually super cleaned the DPF? If so it will be the first time in 40 years of JLR ownership that I've known a car to fix itself.šŸ¤Ø

Hello
Since monitoring my Regens I am at 750km between which is the maximum. I do go for special drives when a regen will happen. I think the car is happy.

I should look at wiring in with a switch. As I need to unplug or I do get a battery drain.

Can a picture be shared on how to wire it in?

Many Thanks

eBay Item No. 204534747929. Fuse switch

I think this is the ebay item number. The fuse that supplies permanent live to the OBD port is in the fusebox behind the glove compartment. I replaced the fuse with the fuse switch lead, then you can mount the switch in a location of your choice. An eBay search might reveal one with a longer lead if you want to place it a distance away from the glove compartment. It's a bit of an anti theft device as well but I need to keep reminding my good Lady that in the event of a breakdown she will have to explain this to the AA, and reveal the secret location of the switch šŸ˜‰. I'm not over confident that she'll remember.

I use an odb2 extension with switch. Just plug one end into the port and the obd2 reader into the other en. Hereā€™s the one I bought, unfortunately currently unavailable on Amazon, but you get the idea

Dear RegenMasters!

Owning an L405 2013 TDV6 (258hp) I would like to monitor the DPF-regeneration cycles and try to forecast them as possible.

Please offer me the best solution/tool for this job. I use latest IPhones and would prefer bluetooth connection if possible without harming the accuracy of the values or the broadcast speed of real time monitoring.

If a dedicated tool with wired connection and display is better, I will go for it.

Thank you in advance!
And thank you all for sharing your experiments!!

Tom

Hi Tom and welcome to the Society of Sootwatchers.
The weapon of choice on here is the Vgate Car Pro dongle which is available on Ebay for less that Ā£20, is available in BT and WiFi and the Car ScannerPro App which is free to download. It's worth taking out the upgrade which lasts a lifetime, gives you lots of extra features and costs less than Ā£10.
Loas of info on this thread on how to set it up.
Happy regens but beware, it's quite addictive.

Hi All

Just watched my first active regeneration today. Oil temp ~99'c coolant temp 88ā€™c. mass soot level 50%, time to last regen 305 miles. Catalytic exhaust temp (I think) went from ~290'c to 590'c~. and Iā€™m sure there was a smell of soot during the process.

The funny thing was I usually spend 10-15 minutes on the M5 motorway, and the final part of my journey is the B3135, guess when the AR started, yep, the blinking B road.
Bit of a winding road and the soot levels dropped to 8% (sound about right?) after about 10 minutes.

Next time Iā€™ll get some screen shots, all using an iPhone and GAP iid. You've bought WHAT!!

Hi Darren, yes sounds about right, very similar to mine actually, (it never drops below 7% for me).
50% seems to be the trigger point with a warm engine and big throttle opening will kick it off pretty soon.
I found with just 1 or 2 percentage points more, it will begin even with a cold engine if you hoof it (2nd turbo) at reasonable speed, so I always drive very gently and slow if Iā€™m nowhere near a motorway-type road and its on or above 50%. In a nerdy way, Iā€™ve set the font for Soot to turn red at or above 50%, and green below 10%. Similarly, Laughing the regen status font is green for ā€œ2ā€ and red for ā€œ0ā€.
Same for exhaust temps (green above 500C), and Oil Temp (Green above 90C, red below) Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Very Happy

You can also play with ā€œHUDā€ mode in the App, using a suitable windscreen mag bracket for further nerdy enjoyment! Thumbs Up Laughing ā€œIf it ainā€™t broke, donā€™t fix itā€ -whereā€™s the fun in that?

Hi Darren, not the iid tool, but the ā€œKot Kitā€ (dongle + phone app) mentioned in the above thread, itā€™s well worth reading the lot! Thumbs Up ā€œIf it ainā€™t broke, donā€™t fix itā€ -whereā€™s the fun in that?

Dear Friends,

It seems I have to buy a new DPF to my car.
Surfing the net I couldn't really find any trustable offer.
Would you let me know if you know any place (firstly in Europe) to buy a geniue or an approved OEM one?

RR 2013 TDV6 (258ps)

Thank you in advance!

Hi Tomi, I think Stan will probs move you to a new thread topic with your question, but good luck. ā€œIf it ainā€™t broke, donā€™t fix itā€ -whereā€™s the fun in that?

How have you come to that conclusion?

DPF's can be cleaned just G it using your location to find Garages near you.
A suitable OBD2 tool can force a Regeneration and also indicate if there are any sensor failures which could also be the culprit.
DPF can be cut out, and physically cleaned and installed for around Ā£300 in UK, probably cheaper in Europe. Do a search on this forum there are lots of threads to study! 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue
