Well it finally happened - Exhaust Filter

Well after 5 years trouble free I got the message this afternoon and a yellow warning triangle saying that the Exhaust Filter was almost full. I have been doing more short journeys than normal due to personal reasons so I followed the advice on here and took it a few miles down the motorway and it cleared. I got to asking myself is this a sign of things to come or now that it has cleared its fixed but I do need to change my driving habits.

I am assuming that the exhaust filter is the DPF by any other name Geoff

All hail to the Gods of Regen, Kot & Luxmoggy, that we pleaseth them, and they keep our DPFs clear & clean, and all is good with them, forever & ever, Amen.

I would certainly check any fault codes with a diagnostic tool. Even look at the soot levels reading just in case… Thumbs Up

Unfortunately my personal circumstances recently have meant many more short journeys, I think that is the cause of my problem. I had already changed my habits as a result of reading the posts, premium diesel, regular oil charges and for a while no short journeys but as I say circumstances have changed and on the one hand I’m lucky that the hospital is only a mile or so away but obviously the DPF isn’t so happy - before I get any sympathy votes it’s not me that needs the hospital, the dentist, the supermarket, the hairdresser etc etc I’m just the willing chauffeur. Thanks to all for the helpful comments. Geoff

Probably 90% of my journeys are short ones. This is why I do the DPF monitoring to ensure I don’t miss a regen. Thanks to all the helpful folk on this forum. Once you get used to it it’s not really a problem, occasionally I have to drive past my destination for a few minutes to let the regen complete. 2017 (67) Vogue SE Corinthian Grey

That's the other thing I forgot, I occasionally go for a blast down the motorway as well thats probably why I had may years trouble free. I don't really want to monitor anything constantly but as she's not using it I start using SWMBOds car (Petrol) Geoff

I reset the trip odometer after a regen, then have a quick look when it approaches about 150miles. Short runs and it's nearly time or long runs mean I've still got about 100 miles to go. It keeps the old grey matter working to calculate miles per gram, or if you prefer miles per percent.
A sootwatcher's social event might be a good idea as my Mrs thinks I'm the only person in the world who's interested / obsessed with soot readings. I've told her that all the footballers WAGs and royal chauffeurs will be watching them like a hawk. Although I suspect that most of the above might be petrol.
