4.4 TDV8 Main Seal Leak

Ive noticed an oil leak under the range probably 10 months ago. Drips here and there, not a massive amount. But ive noticed now the drips on the incline in my driveway and not just inside the garage, so things are getting worse and the time to get this fixed is getting closer... With the service done in November it was explained to me it being a main seal leak, they provided a quote 17000 rand yikes, saying it's not urgent but the leak will just get worse and at some point it will just need to be done.

Im committed to getting it done - but - I would like to be able to understand what goes into this repair.

Id appreciate advice and input on two things please!
1) the practical steps of how they will go about doing this. This will enable me to wrap my mind around the cost, have a more critical look at the quote, ask some questions before sending it in, and even set some parameters if that's needed
2) while they're in there, is there additional work we can get round to now as preventative maintenance?

Thank you! 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Remove the transfer case, remove the gearbox, remove the starter motor, remove the crankshaft position sensor, fit the crankshaft locking tool, loosen flex plate bolts, remove the crankshaft locking tool, remove the flex plate, remove the trigger wheel, remove oil seal housing bolts including the ones up through the sump, hopefully work the seal housing out without damaging the sump gasket, hopework work the new seal housing back in without damaging the sump gasket, fit and tighten the seal housing bolts, fit a new trigger wheel using the alignment tool then reverse all the steps to refit the transfer case.

Renew the lubricant on the gearbox output shaft/transfer case input shaft before refitting the transfer case.

DeeJay - for what it is worth, have you checked that your leak is not from the oil cooler?.
You can check yourself by getting under the car, degreasing all around the bellhousing and then checking after a day or two's use. If your leak is coming down the side of the bellhousing from the top of the engine it wont be the main seal that is the cause of your leak.

Checked and confirmed it is not the oil cooler. I that was the problem we would've done that fix last year. 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

A revised rear main seal was introduced with VIN BA343771. I have no details of the change and unlikely to be of significance all these years later.
