Do you periodically accelerate hard and therefore the smoke is unusual or do you almost never which would allow oil accumulation in the secondary turbo's inlet tract? |

Hi no, I very rarely accelerate hard enough to use the kickdown as I nearly always have my dogs in the car or I am towing a trailer ,I pulled the MAP sensor out yesterday and it was completely choked up so I think my next move will be to take the manifold off to give it a clean up and check, there is a suspicious drip of oil from underneath the manifold on the left hand front coupler, thank you for your reply |

I pulled the doughnut intake off today which was choked with oily carbon deposits clean it out and refitted ,but noticed oil running down the intake pipe to the r/h turbo , when I took the elbow from the r/h air filter there was oil in the pipe which runs down to the turbo ,so am I looking at a faulty turbo? ,it doesn't look too doable from underneath |

Right hand when looking at the engine from in front of the vehicle or when in the vehicle looking forwards? When looking forwards the RH turbo is the primary turbo.

Hi Grahame yes right hand side when standing in front of the vehicle,if not the turbo what could it be? been reading stuff about secondary drain mods etc ,the pictures don't really show how oily it is' Could it be a matter of just really giving it a bit of stick now and again |

Because the 2nd turbo isn't full-time, the valves used to shut-off its air intake and to prevent exhaust going through it need to be exercised occasionally to keep them working and to clear small quantities of accumulated oil, sticking the boot in now and then is necessary. |

Hi I removed the valve from the second turbo It was full of oil, the intake from the filter to the turbo also has a lot of oil in it but I cannot see a way of removing it,the jubilee clip from the convoluted pipe is inaccessible , I can see some nuts holding a duct on what I assume is the turbo but doesn't look any easier to get too, I assume that the subframe will need to be dropped to gain access to the turbo |

Don't bother to cleanout the oil residue as it will soon clear when whatever is causing oil build-up is fixed.

Checked the valve in the oil filter all looked ok but on closer inspection saw that as the filter had been screwed back on it had slewed the spring slightly moving out of alignment with the drain hole think it was done by the oil filter, it looked different to the Mahler one anyway buttoned it all up refilled it with oil went for a run, got a full DPF message but after a run up the M2 it cleared the message ,no warning lights no smoke so its got a reprieve for a while ,going to try and get my classic sorted now so I'll have a more comfortable plan B in case it happens again ,although my series 3 got me about ok |
