JCW - From Kevins post on page 2...
I can summise that it's main role is as you say to allow drain back of oil when changing the filter - but Kevin mentioned when his was missing, it flooded the air intake. Presumably while the engine is running. Given I'm losing loads of oil since the last service it had (where they most likely dislodged the bung or discarded it for some reason), but no noticeable white smoke, am i right in saying its likely to be going into the air intake and then collecting the second turbo. When I say a lot of oil... I put 9 ltrs in over a 4 month period after the service, checking and topping up regularly... still am This may not actually be the reason for the Restricted Performance but it sure doesn't mean the turbo needs replacing like the LR service centre advise... Hopefully toby1 will come up trumps and you get it fitted and see what happens. |

I don't disagree Jonathan... maybe because the secondary turbo isn't spooling up (for other reasons) its just collecting there and then dripping out ... maybe.... Ash

Evening. Success. PM your address and I should be able to post it tomorrow as I have to walk into town to the barber. Hopefully I can find something suitable in which to put it.

The hole drains to the breather oil separator which is OK when the engine isn't running but when running the continual flow of oil floods the separator causing oil to be blown out with the air, thereby entering the inlet. |

It wasn't my finding, but I couldn't hassle myself to find the original poster. |

As I recall, the purpose of this device is to allow oil to drain from the filter housing when the filter element is removed. I think another forum member, maybe jay gee, solved the problem by blanking the hole off with a self tapping screw. |

I've just ordered a new cooler so if anybody wants the part out of my old cooler you can have it. Won't be for a few weeks yet though. |
