2020 Deployable step obstruction on deployment

Hi all,

Have a 2020 Range Rover with deployable steps, just brought it, really happy with it apart from the passenger deployable side step.

It will deploy on opening the door and then jumps back slightly near the final position, then when closing the door it does not retract and I do not hear any motor activity.

I have also tried through the screen to deploy for roof access to see if that makes any difference and when I do that I get a message that an obstruction was detected when deploying.

To make the step go in I am basically lying on the floor and pushing it back in with both feet.

I do notice that this step does feel like it have a bit of play in it, not sure if that is because its not in a final position?

Steps I have gone through so far:

-Cleaning the pivot points - Pressure washer and using a brush to get any stubborn dirt out
-Used WD40 and wd 40 lithium grease on the joints
-extend the step and manually pushed in multiple times

Running out of ideas, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Fez, yeah this problem is very common, search “deployable steps” above and read on, & on, & on…

Ultimately, take off the steps, remove the motors, and soak the hinges in paraffin overnight, work the hinges a lot, then apply ACF-50 liberally (messy stuff) to all the pivots, and allow to soak in.

Rinse & repeat every Summer Rolling Eyes “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

anyone know how to disable the steps in a L405? I'm off to the snow and prefer them not to get dunked up.

My L322 had a button in the roof/mirror panel but my 405 doesn't. cant find it in the booklet or on here.

There's a button by the right knee alongside the boot release. Is that it?

Yep, that's the one. Get in the car and close door so steps retract, then press and hold the button in before switching ignition on, switch ignition on and it should flash a few times to indicate the steps are disabled. Repeat same procedure to re-enable. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Quick question does any one have the steps for removing the steps, so I can remove the hinges, want to make sure I only remove what I need in the right way. Looks like I need to remove some of the panels but just want to check before I start just pulling on pieces Smile

Thanks

Some one mentioned I should also disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the steps, is that correct?

Is there anything I need to be aware of disconnecting the battery or resetting anything when reconnecting?

Thanks
