United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

Well that was a jaunt!! The D5 commercial is back home.

7.45 start, fortunately for me SWMBO was heading to Market Harborough to meet a friend, so I managed to get a lift that far, then train into St Pancs, tube to Liverpool St, and train out to Colchester. Then drive back via Stansted, M11, A14, M1 and home….. got back at 4.15.

Not a bad round trip!

And the D5…… it’s like the child of a D4 and a FFRR. As comfy as a van can be, seats are good, ride is good, powertrain is good and it’s got Pivipro. And it’s as quick as the 4.4.

Would it convince me to swap out of my 16 AB. Hmm no. As good as. Nearly. But in fairness it’s an SE so not full of toys. Now I’ve put car play in it the Ab has more stuff in it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It’s a very big baby…. Feels huge to drive, bigger than the FF bonnet feels higher and wider when driving it. I’ll get used to it no doubt. Did a quick run to Aldi and I felt less inclined to just chuck it in a space.

It is comfy tho. I drove them back to back yesterday and getting back in the FF it felt a bit more crashy and noisy suspension wise. Which may be down to it needing a few bushes doing. Engine in the FF is a little noisier too. The D300 seems very quiet and smooth.

It’s on 30k and has just had its second service so it’s not been stretched out to the 21k intervals which is good. First interval was at 17k and it’s just been done. I’m going to swap out the oil every 12 months so going forward it will get serviced like the D4 at about 8000mile intervals. Hopefully it won’t lunch its engine…… I suppose that’s the benefit of LR warranty. 🤣 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Fattie has had a bit of TLC recently.

Service - done
MoT - done
EGT sensor - done
Arb bushes - done
DEF fluid Under guard bolts - in and to do
Gearbox service - oil only - done
New batteries. - done
Tow bar socket - done
Car play adapter - done

Just got the brakes and tank guard left to do and I think she is good to go.

And I was going to have a look at the aux belts and tensioner as well. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Indeed Pete.

Managed to get the ARB bushes done at my local (never used before) Indy called Alan Smith Garages. They’ve been at it for a very long time. chap who is running it now Josh seems to have a very good knowledge of the cars. Almost like he has a WM in his head. Did both sets of ARBs and the Gearbox oil for me today along with an MOT. Pulled up the rear brake pips were a bit rusty, so they’ve coated them up and noted it for next time. Also the rear pads were thin, but not expired. But I’ve got them sitting in the garage in any case. Thumbs Up

Just Been out and had a look at the tensioner. The belt is actually running on the edge of it. So I’ve ordered another one. I did it on my 322 and it was pretty easy. In all honesty it looks even easier on the 405 as there is much more space once the intercooler pipe comes off. The belt looks ok and will get changed at next service anyway…… available space is good, Roomy even…. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
