Facelift 3.6 TDV8 - Coding Out Cruise Radar Sensor

Was hoping to get a definitive answer/guidance/advice as despite my best effort and searching I cannot find a solid answer.

I’m getting an intermittent “forward alert not available” message on my L322. Happens at random with no real pattern - can be driving 10 mins or 1 hours, or sometimes doesn’t happen at all. GAP IID tool suggests faulty radar sensor and my local specialist has also confirmed this too.

It’s a real pain as it disables to cruise and generally speaking, my L322 is only really used for long journeys towing my track car and covered trailer.

So the question is, on a facelift L322 with the 3.6, can the radar sensor be coded out? So the cruise would just work like normal cruise?

The internet suggests it can be done with the GAP IID tool on the facelifts but the posts I’ve found never say if it’s a 3.6 or a 4.4 TDV8. The reason I ask is that according to some parts diagrams on classic Land Rover, it seems the radar sensors differ on the facelift 3.6 and 4.4. One diagram suggests the 3.6 had an extra radar sensor.

If the answer is yes - how can it be done in the GAP tool? Secondly, is this regarded as a bit of a bodge? As opposed to shelling out the £2k for a new sensor?

For reference my car is:

3.6 TDV8
ZF6 Box
Digi Dash etc
Cats/No DPF

Thanks in advance!

I've reverted to standard CC on my MY12 because the sensor failed, after having retro-fitted ACC some years earlier. There are several parameters to change but also the fuse to the radar sensor has to be removed to prevent unexpected messages from the sensor on the HS canbus.

The 4.4's ECM handles CC/ACC but the 3.6 uses an older ECM which might use a separate module for ACC, in which case either unplug the module or remove its fuse if the fuse is solely for the ACC module. Some diagrams show an ACC module near the rear fuse panel. Some diagams show a 2nd radar sensor connected to the main sensor for the 5.0 and the rear ACC control module too. However people have retrofitted to 5.0s with only 1 radar unit and no ACC module so the 5.0 information is at least sometimes incorrect.

Thanks Graeme. A lot of the searching I've done has your input on the threads.

Does the digi dash work ok when you disable the ACC element? It all seems well integrated so was worried about gremlins popping up if I removed. Standard CC would be ideal for how I use the car so I think I'm going to go down the route of just disabling the ACC.

Do you know which options I need to change in the GAP tool to remove it? Again, I'd seen on a thread about needing "full CCF access" - is this required to remove? Do you have any resources to track down the correct module/fuses to unplug/remove please?

Obviously if there is anyone who has done this specifically on a facelift 3.6 - please let me know.

My wiring diagrams don't include the 3.6 engine, possibly because I didn't download it from Topix, but I don't see a separate ACC module on the HS canbus diagram indicating that MY10-12 don't have that module.

Mine's radar sensor fuse is #17 in the engine bay auxilliary fuse box.

When I get a chance I'll connect my IIDtool to see if I can spot the parameters that I reset.

These 2 pictures show the parameters that I altered to enable ACC which would need to be changed to standard CC.

Brilliant thank you! I'll plug in my IID tool and see what options I have. In the meantime, could you advise which wiring diagram from Topix you'd suggest I download for my 3.6? I've uploaded a screenshot of whats available for my car.

Would changing those parameters in IID also totally remove all the forward alert options in the vehicle menus too?

The 3rd one, the EWD.

I don't recall if the foward alert option still shows but it's of no consequence if it does but I expect it would show Not Available.

Thanks again Graeme.

I'll dive into the engine bay fuse box and see how it differs from what you've got on the 4.4. Hopefully its the same, I can switch the CCF options in IID and it works from there.

I'll report back!
