Hi All

I'm new here but I know one or two of you from other forums.

So, I've had my brand new FFRR for 5 days and done 500 miles and already it has started dripping rear diff oil on my drive (guessing that's what it is judging by the location of the drips)

Called the supplying dealer and they gave me the option of calling LR assistance or taking it in. Not sure what to do yet.

Does anyone know if there is a known problem here please?

I'm guessing that your 2011 is well and truly under warranty?

I suppose if they've said you can drive it in and it loses all its oil and burns out then it'll be on their head? Either way they'll probably replace the whole unit anyway rather than replace the seal, let us know how it goes.

I think you should just insist on having the whole diff replaced as dan says.
Hopefully they'll just do that anyway, but at least they sound like they're not going to argue & just sort it.
Ask them for a free service next time too for the hassle

Perhaps LR are going back to their roots.....leaky diff - built the classic RR way

This shows a total lack of quality control Land Rover have with part suppliers, the tolerance of the shaft must be way out to be leaking on a brand new vehicle, either that or the seal has been nicked or poorly assembled when built, even a faulty seal again lack of quality control.

You could insist on having a new diff fitted, but there are no guarantees that it won't spew its guts over the driveway in a couple of days.

How sad that one spends in excess of £70k to have this happen, maybe you have a Monday or even a Friday car.....there seem to be plenty of Monday and Friday FFRR around at the moment

Took it to the dealer this morning and one of the diff seals is leaking. Monday it will be fixed.

Fingers crossed it was just an early life failure and not the beginning of fun and games.

They have asked me to get a quote for removing the gearbox oil from the drive.

at least they are sorting the driveway as well,the dealer sounds ok..

I should expect them to foot the bill for cleaning the drive, it is after all their fault.

Oil seal failures at 500 miles is not right, ask them to check the tolerances of the shaft to make sure it isn't faulty.

Incidentally MBs take on diff oil seals is, if it isn't dripping off the diff then it's only a weep and not a leak, but you just know once the warranty is up it will then start dripping and cost plenty to repair. I changed the 3 seals on my S-Class diff last year after fighting with MB about it 'weeping', but they wouldn't budge on sorting it out under warranty. The new seals weren't expensive, but the diff had to be removed and seals replaced whilst working on the bench.
