Best 13pin caravan plugs.

Just for info, if for some reason you have to replace the towing plug on your van. Get a good one…….

So somehow the 12v feed for the fridge on my van plug got pushed into the housing a bit. No probs I though I’ll order one off eBay, which I did and fitted it. While it was apart I noticed that wire had overheated due to it arcing to the car and had melted a bit as it shorted to another pin….. tidied it all up and put the new plug on.

The new plug has done the same and pushed that pin back, again. Cheapie off eBay. Looking at the socket, the respective hole has some slight melting around it from the arcing, which is probably now stopping that pin a little, it will go in but not every time. I’m going to get the socket swapped out at the place which fitted the towbar but a quick fettle with a Stanley knife will remove the problem plastic. I don’t know which problem occurred first or how it happened.

So now that cheap plug is also bust I’ve invested £15 in a hella one and another £15 in a Jaeger one. So I can see which is the best. The Hella has arrived and is a much better designed thing. Looks robust and there is plenty of plastic behind the pins. So I will fit that and Keep the Jaeger as a spare when it arrives.

The moral as always is buy better buy once. Avoid the internet bargain ones. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Just for info, the Jaeger one has arrived and as suspected it is almost identical to the Hella one. So that can go in the tub as a spare. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I've found that the Jaeger ones are of far better quality than the run of the mill cheap stuff found in caravan accessory shops and in Go Outdoors.

Useful to know that Hella ones are equally good too. 2017 SDV8 Autobiography

Yep almost exactly the same. Only difference is Hella have added a small pin which locks the outer part into the right place when detached so it’s always correct to insert. The indent is there for it on the jaeger one but the hella actually has it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I suppose you could Stan, in theory you could somehow tap into the towing connectors if you knew which wire was which. Basically if you don’t have a tow bar they are on the outside of the rear panel behind the crash bar. 2 grey plugs clipped to the panel, about middle. Should be there ok every car.👍🏻 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
