Winged headrests - how to remove ?

Three weeks into ownership and this car's causing me noticeable neck & shoulder pain. It wasn't obvious on a 20 min test drive when I bought it but now I've done a few 2hr+ drives it's apparent the head rest forces my head too far forwards, straining my neck & upper back. Not fun.

I want to remove the head rest so I can try and measure how far off it is. The non-winged headrests look a lot thinner. Can I retrofit them in place of the winged headrests ?

Going by ownerinfo.landrover.com electric headrests cannot be removed, whereas manual ones can be. There is also reference to being able to adjust the angle of the headrest unless the car has rear seat entertainment screens (by using the button on the side). If it's possible have you tried changing the angle? My 2017 car's headrests are winged (wings generally folded flat though) and don't push my head forward, so assuming yours are standard LR headrests it ought to be possible to move them?

On the off chance this is relevant, I had a software malfunction where the headrests moved down by themselves, if working properly they should stay where set. The software was rebooted and it has not happened again, so if the headrests are locked in the wrong place then maybe a software update could help. Only Range Rovers since 1988

They're winged - as per the thread title and the last sentence of my post ! Also pretty easy to remove by hand as it turns out, you don't need any tools or anything. I'm now scouring ebay for alternatives. Jag XF look favourable so far.

Fitted XF headrests. Seems better. Will be doing a 160 mile round trip tomorrow so I'll see how it goes.

The headrests move backwards on the seat adjuster. I was quite surprised you can move them 4 ways 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )

At the fear of being shouted at I did have an incident in another car and I’m not saying your vehicle has been involved in a crash but in that vehicle the headrest propelled itself forward in the collision. The headrest had to be reset at the dealers when all work had been completed. 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )

It fixed the problem of the headrest pushing my head forwards, but that just highlighted the fact the seat back is a bad design too. The very uppermost part isn't padded, so the top would still push my shoulders forwards relative to the rest of my back. The lumbar support was no help, it is just a sharp "point" not a "pad" and of course doesn't extend to the mid-upper back anyway.

But this is all moot now - along with all the other stuff I hated about the car (see my other posts around the same time) the seat problems were the final straw and I got rid of it. I owned it exactly 50 days.
Shortest time I've ever kept a car. Hugely disappointing experience.

FWIW, the best seats ever are BMW "Comfort" seats. I've had those in several cars and they're awesome.

No they aren't (weren't) "active" headrests. Must be a facelift thing.

Interestingly my when got my 2021 AB my initial thoughts were that the head rests were too far back, even in their most forward adjusted position, so as I sit there’s always a gap between the head rests and my head unless I almost lean my head back into them, which feels unnatural

I've got winger headrests, can't understand why the drivers seat has one

Is it so on a motorway you can set lane guidance and ACC, pull the wings in, and have a kip...!!!
