Can't really advise on aftermarket as I've never used them, but for reference, I recently bought 2 genuine front discs (LR016176) for £189.99 delivered. Also picked up genuine pads (LR160069) for £89.99 delivered.

Are you sure that these prices are for original Land Rover parts? Because original pads seem to be quite expensive...

Yes, genuine JLR, boxed and brand new, the discs were from Maltings 4x4, the pads I can't remember, I just keep a search active on Ebay and buy whenever some pop up at the right money. I've got 2 sets of fronts and 3 rear sets of pads to keep by me as I also have a L494.

before you buy stuff Mark, check them discs and pads yourself cos dealers have a habit of saying you need work when you dont .. ... - .- -.

I checked the discs the other day Stan and there is a bit of life in the fronts, but probably not a whole set of pads worth, rears are on 65k and haven’t ever been done so could do with a swap, though to be honest I can’t tell if I did the discs when I got the car….. they look new on my thread but 🤷♂️

Yep. It’s the dilemma. I’m teetering on that narrow fence. And resisting falling off well….. nothing much wrong with the Shiney which a bit of maintenance won’t sort out.

Is it generally regarded as a new disc to 2 sets of pads as long as the disc looks good? 2016 4.4 diesel |

"Anyone had any recent experience of aftermarket fronts? I’m leaning towards the TRW ones but any input would be good."

I have been a specialist engineer working in the brakes industry for 30+ years, so I know what I am talking about, I teach younger engineers about brakes, friction materials and brake applications.

We have tried every type of pad & disc going and we come back to JLR use only as a company.

Genuine discs seem to be pretty poor quality, they corrode badly when not used hard - eg older XC90, 11k miles - perfect front discs; newer L405, 11 k miles, inside face in a terrible state. Similar use/storage for both. |
