It's not as if Surrey to Park Royal is a long way either. Take it back, let the dealer sort it and chill out. The way you're carrying on you'll get an ulcer.

The facts are that cars are mechanical things which do go wrong from time to time. That'll be all cars. If you think an X5 would be any better you might want to talk to my Brother. Both of his have had way more issues than my Rangie. The latest 10 plate has now done 8k miles, still only does 23mpg (3.5 diesel) and has spent 43 days in the dealer. Yeah, great reliability that.

You have an offer from LPR to take the car in. Won't cost you anything except a bit of time to do that. Seems like it would be sensible to take them up on the offer quite frankly.

What isn't sensible is to destroy the goodwill by ranting about the car without giving LPR the chance to sort it.

....... Most LRs are an unfinished project at time of sale & require a little finishing effort with the Dealer through the years!!

Don't turn down the offer of assistance - it makes you look like an idiot, persevere.

i can see where andy is coming from..
obviously lookers seem to be on the ball with customer care but when the vehicle keeps coming up with faults it gets really disheartening in the end. sometimes you just give up Big Cry
i had the same problems with my previous 3.6tdv8 and have to say that stratstone MK were great.. Thumbs Up
where the problem is that the dealer will only get paid under warranty if they do what LR technical tell them to do.. and LR technical do not seem to be very good or helpful to the customer or dealer.. Big Cry
in the end i ended up p/ex my vehicle for a new 4.4 tdv8 and stratstone gave me a massive discount to help me change the car.. Thumbs Up
they shouldn't have had to do that but LR basically washed there hands with my warranty problems..

This is great for you, but that just doesn't make sense...........unless the dealer will just send it out to auction ?
Presumably if your car had a warranty it must have either been new or an approved used, then you would think the dealer would sell on again as an approved used and the next customer will surely still get all the same "warranty" problems you had and want them fixed. At some point LR would have to fix it ?
But then I suppose not if over 3 years and they do sell on out of the dealership.............hmm time to avoid FFRR's sold out of the LR franchises ?

So, Andy D, did you get the problem solved ? Can you or James at Lookers give an update - it's always interesting to know what happened - it helps to know what dealers to use for next purchases Wink

I have to be a bit careful regarding customer confidentiality, therefore AndyD may wish to expand on which items caused it to not pass the MOT which may add some clarity. I'm pretty sure that AndyD is happy with Lookers, and he knows that we would always assist if assistance is needed.

Shocked You need to ask? Wink Not many dealers would respond before 5am! Laughing

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

The latest we've heard is that at some point the car had some work done to it and part of the wiring loom want replaced properly. It's been rubbing against the wheel arch, has worn through the insulation and it shorts against the bodywork making various modules explode (including the handbrake which is the main reason for it failing the MOT).

As for the money/problems so far:

1st service (about 6 weeks after we got it) £600
New brake discs and pads (less than 3 months after we got it) £700
Ignition module fail
Transmission fail (outside an Audi dealers Embarassed )
Hand brake fail
HDC fail
Air compressor failure x2
Hand break fail again
Hire cars to date £150 (courtesy cars are never available - this is my local dealer not LPR)
Cleaning the drive because it leaks oil like a BP oil rig -£TBC
New tyre to pass MOT (there's a cut that isn't covered by LR tyre insurance we bought as that excludes damage to tyres in the smallprint Censored ) £300

Can you see why I'm getting a bit fed up yet? The above doesn't include having to repeatedly take time off work to sort the issues out '07 Supercharged in black with drug dealer tinted windows

I would take James up on his offer to give it an autopsy but it's currently in pieces on the floor of the local dealers having a new wing loom fitted and as it's failed the MOT so I couldn't drive it to Park Royal anyway. '07 Supercharged in black with drug dealer tinted windows

I'd have taken it back to the supplying dealer in the first instance, especially in view of James's offer. In my experience, things can get a bit 'messy' when a second dealer becomes involved. I know that distance/time can be an issue, but if bleeps and flashes are going off like an Ibiza nightclub then I reckon a call to LRA for recovery to the supplying dealer would've represented a reasonable request. I don't blame your wife for not wanting to drive it on the motorway - it should have gone straight back to the supplying dealer, I think.

I wouldn't get too exorcised about the service and brake replacements as these will always be due at some stage and maybe earlier than expected on a used car, so I'd take these out of my 'fretting equation'. I know that service intervals are variable but this cost could've been mitigated if the service history suggested that a service might be imminent, by including provision for the service in the purchase negotiation. This might've included the brakes; pads at least, as condition is visible isn't it?; and maybe discs too if you suspected that the mileage warranted it.

Hope you get it all sorted to your satisfaction! If you change it though, I'd go for a D4 before an X5 Thumbs Up

You're right, with hindsight I should have taken it straight back to LPR, I'm sure everything would be different now if I had.

I'm not going to be replacing it with an X5, it's a bit too footballers wives. The D4 is too utilitarian, Q7 looks like a Nissan with added bling, Volvo and Lexus are for people who have given up on life and Mercs are overpriced and that doesn't leave a lot so I'm not sure what I'll end up with '07 Supercharged in black with drug dealer tinted windows

Andy,

Many thanks for taking the time to list the issues, and again, I apologise that you have not had a pleasurable ownership experience....... very dissapointing indeed.

The long list of electrical faliures sound like they are related to the loom, which is a common procedure, however it sounds like it has been carried out/routed poorly. Hopefully the dealer that has it will rectify that issue for you, and the issues you have had will not reappear.

As far as the tyres are concerned, please speak to Jeremy as it sounds like it should be covered, however I am only going on the info in your post and Jeremy will get a bit more detail. Our policy does cover accidental damage, but there is a specific claims procedure.

With regard to the service, you should not have had to pay for a service so soon after collecten, even if it was alerted by the dash indicator. Please send me a copy of the invoice and I will look in to what can be done......... although it is probably obvious what will be done!

Brakes are a bit subjective as it is easy for dealer/technician to say "your brakes are X% worn, and you could do with new discs". All I can say is that they will have been within the Approved Used guidelines. To be fair, we fitted new rear brake pads, therefore is the fronts needed doing then we would have done them. It will be too late for you to ask to see the old pads/discs unless you asked to keep them??

It should not leak oil, therefore once the dealer has recticited the electrical issue then we would be more than happy to come and collect it, leave you with a vehicle to use and give it a health check.

We need to get the enjoymant back into the car. Embarassed

James Thumbs Up

Thanks James, as soon as it's back in one piece we'll give you a shout and arrange for it to be picked up. As for the brakes, it was the big orange light on the dashboard saying "replace brake pads" not a technician. '07 Supercharged in black with drug dealer tinted windows

Well done, you can't ask better than that. Wish you were my local dealer Thumbs Up

I would have been fuming if I had to pay for a service that soon into ownership ! You should have gone straight back to them Andy D.
In fact that did actually happen to me with another marque. 1 month after owning I had a call to politely ask me to book the car in for a full service..............."what you are kidding" I said - maybe a few loud grunts too Twisted Evil They did do it for free in the end, but had to argue. I couldn't beleive any main dealer would sell a car without it being fully serviced / mot'd for the year.

I'd be shocked if the discs weren't under warranty ? Pads No, but discs - at least a skim to make new if they can be done ?

Anyway, good luck hope you get all the problems fixed. I've never dealt with James, but from the sound of it they are No.1 Thumbs Up
